Why are they so good at literature?

They surpassed most European countries in just 2 centuries. A total success story that should inspire us. These people went from 0 to 100. What went right?

New York alone has a smaller population than both of them yet it has produced better writers. It’s not about population size.

NYC represents the cream of the crop of 300M+ Amerimutts.

If France had 300M people, we would all be talking about French literature non-stop.

The real country that has outperformed in literature, given their relatively modest population, is RUSSIA.

            > NYC represents the cream of the crop of 300M+ Amerimutts
Now it’s “cream of the crop”, not population. Interesting cope.
            > If France had 300M people, we would all be talking about French literature non-stop.
And if I had millions in the bank I’d be a millionaire. This is called a fantasy (not real) and it doesn’t mean anything.
            > The real country that has outperformed in literature, given their relatively modest population, is RUSSIA
The US is way younger than Russia or any Euro country.

Anyway, that's approximately 1/3 of the total European population. Sure, that's "most countries" if you purposely use tiny, irrelevant countries like Andorra, San Marino, Luxembourg, and non-countries like Kosovo. And then you have some very debatable inclusions, such as Czechia, Poland, Scotland, and Portugal. It's not so clear-cut.

Also Americans pre-20th century were just bongs or various euros who spoke English as a lingua franca for the most part, core American culture and identity were basically established in the early 1900's and it started with the civil war.

Yeah, totally, it's not like IQfy's favorite book Infinite Jest is pretty much a satire on modern American culture that definitely exists and is actually distinct from the English culture, unlike the Proto-American culture which mostly consisted of more individualistic bongs with a little twist.

            >Americans after the 20th century stopped having a distinct American identity
Because that's around when the muttification and the influx of immigrants started.

That's when the actual American culture started morphing itself, the bongs larping as a new nation became a minority.

            [...]

All the europoors are big mad at the Chad U.S. as is tradition. Melville alone is better than any other euro writer apart from Shakespeare and Dante (maybe Dostoyevsky too). How sad is it when one single writer and one single book absolutely destroys your entire nations canon.
Add in others like Faulkner, O’Connor, Pinecone, Corncob, Pringles Man, etc. and how can other countries even compete? Only Russia, Greeks and Britain can compete. And Greeks haven’t produced anything worthwhile in 2000+ years

All writers you've mentioned are just Anglo writers, plain and simple. They were Anglos by culture, heritage, language etc. and certainly people like Melville and Poe thought of themselves as Anglos stranded on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Your accomplishments should count as Anglo accomplishments, there's nothing like American literature simply because America is not a nation

Europeans live miserable lives that they have almost no control over, there’s only so many times you can publish the same story about:
    >le bucolic but sometimes sad peasant
    >the noble nobleman
    >the ignoble nobleman
    >the cuckhold
    >the dashing knight (hats off to Cervantes for getting a bit more mileage out of this one though)
Even look at euro books written today. Basically ever houellebecq book is about a sad and sexual dysfunctional eurocuck.
By contrast Americans are generally responsible for their own lives, for better or for worse, and that is inherently more interesting to read about. It also provides a greater wealth of subject matter.

      >Americans are generally responsible for their own lives
How delusional do you have to be to actually believe this

      >Basically ever houellebecq book is about a sad and sexual dysfunctional eurocuck.
      sovl

Also I bet that you've never read most of the modern good Euro literature because guess what? Most of it probably wasn't even translated into English and you probably haven't ever heard of it because of non-existent marketing.

It goes both ways, in my Euro country nobody cares about the American lit classics either. The only countries that matter here when it comes to the classics are my own, of course, Germany, France, and Russia. The only American writers that matter here are modern ones like GRRM, Gaiman, plenty of science fiction writers also.

Houellebecq is slop. The fact eurogays think he’s “soul” is precisely what’s wrong with their literature these dsys.

I speak french and read contemporary novels published in France, at least 2 a year. I don't think anything they publish compares to American classics
        >you can't compare classics to contemporary
You invited the comparison when you tried to invalidate my opinion on the basis that you assumed I could not read untranslated euro slop. I've already expressed the opinion that I don't believe euro classics compare well to american classics. Now I am saying in addition that euro contemporary novels don't compare well to american classics. I thought this would have went without saying but I guess it didn't.
