Free France and the concept of a French Resistance is for the most part one giant LARP they came up with after the liberation of their country by Commonwealth and US forces.

So they wouldn't have had a problem with causing trouble in a town and having the Germans roll up and execute a bunch of civilians since it furthered their cause in the long run.

Most of the allied forces landed in the days after the initial landings. Including the free French and all the other minor allied forces, the Australians, the Polish etc.
There is some weird obsession with literally being on the beaches day one, even an American president brought this up recently. Of course it was an incredible achievement and demonstrated the bravery and skill of the soldiers on that day, but the war was huge in scope.
