Why do people think Jesus was crucified on a cross when it is objective historical fact he was crucified on an upright stake? Where did the lie that he was crucified on a cross come from? Paganism?

A JW youtuber proved that Jesus died on an upright stake
This video does not provide proof that it was definitely an upright stake, it at most casts doubt over the main evidences that it was a cross, but it does not supply concrete evidence that it wasn't.
It would still be historically plausible for the Romans to use either in this time period. Although I would say I still think the reference in John's gospels to nails (plural) in hands was sidestepped by the video and not refuted, and is still proof of more than one nail used in Jesus' hands.
the jehovist at it again.
>Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails - john 20:25
>nails
What's your point?
So they awkwardly banged in two nails into the crossed together wrists/hands where one would suffice?
How do you know one would suffice? Were you there?
Because they were big nails.
In Christian theology, yes. There's been a very violent debate over precisely how Yeshua was nailed to the cross, but as early as the 150s we know that Christgays were saying that he was nailed to a cross as Clement says so. Noncanon Gnostic texts like the Epistle of Barnabas had him being attached to a t shaped instrument around 100. It wouldn't be until the mid 1800s that the apocalyptic sects that would lead to JWism would decide that Yeshua was actually crucified on a stake.
Of course, the Gospel narratives were invented centuries after the supposed event took place. In reality the victims of crucifixion were nailed through the forearms and then tied by them to the cross. Nailing through the hand/wrist would result in the body tearing the hand/wrist apart under the body's weight.
>the Gospel narratives were invented centuries after the supposed event took place.
The 20th century called, it wants its outdated scholarship back.
If the Watchtower Society is indeed the authority on all spiritual and worldly matters as you claim, why have all of its prophesies failed to come true?
I’m not OP
Wouldn't he suffocate when tired?
why tf do JWs still hold some of Rutherford’s contrarian autism as gospel even though most of his doctrines have since been rejected and reversed back to Russel’s?
probably because Jesus is portrayed as being crucified on a cross (which is literally what CRUCIFIED means) in the 1st century AD by non-Christian Romans
Jws are moronic
It has been debunked

You have 20 seconds to apologize.
This graffito is from 200 years later, it means nothing
>this evidence of how Roman's crucified including Jesus and specifically Jesus means nothing
Shut up jw cultist
>scribble on a wall 200 years after the alleged historical event
>evidence
Why not consider comic books historical evidence while we are at it.
Captain America defeated Nazi Germany, right?
Yeah. Everyone knows the only true reliable documents are the secret magic golden books that only one person has seen and hid from everyone else and he couldn’t read the same words when asked to on demand, and they’ve now disappeared because an angel took them home.
The watchtower society doest start until thousands of years later, but you think thats the first time anyone understood the bible.
People still think this because the generation of 1914 didn't live forever, if that had happened everyone would be a JW.
I’m thinking there’s some deeper providence involved in this unorthodox depiction of the crucifixion, kind of God’s way of showing that the JW jesus, without outstretched arms, saves no one.
why does it matter?
Because they have to
be contrarians about everything
>Moses himself prayed to God, stretching out both hands, and Hur with Aaron supported them during the whole day, so that they might not hang down when he got wearied. For if he gave up any part of this sign, which was an imitation of the cross, the people were beaten, as is recorded in the writings of Moses; but if he remained in this form, Amalek was proportionally defeated, and he who prevailed prevailed by the cross.
Dialogue with Trypho, 150 AD.
Epistle of Barnabas describes the cross as a T shape.
(σταυρός)."[74]
Justin Martyr (100–165) explicitly says the cross of Christ was of two-beam shape: "That lamb which was commanded to be wholly roasted was a symbol of the suffering of the cross which Christ would undergo. For the lamb, which is roasted, is roasted and dressed up in the form of the cross. For one spit is transfixed right through from the lower parts up to the head, and one across the back, to which are attached the legs of the lamb."
Irenaeus, who died around the end of the 2nd century, speaks of the cross as having "five extremities, two in length, two in breadth, and one in the middle, on which [last] the person rests who is fixed by the nails."
JWs are liars with no legitimate connection to the early church. They say all this dumb shit just to make themselves look special compared to Christians.
Because why wouldn't they know the "secret truth" about the crucifixion that no Christians have ever said anything about. Of course they would, they're the *True Church ™* after all. Clearly this is true, because everyone else has it wrong you see.
The group closest theologically to you doesn't even agree with you on that.
