The war started with the North invading the South, not the other way around. The UN resolution called to stop North Korea's invasion, not to unify the peninsula. China's goal was to unify the peninsula and they failed when UN/South Korean forces pushed them out of Seoul and back over the 38th parallel. Nobody 'won' in Korea. The only 'Loser' was the DPRK. The United Nations were fighting for the survival of the Republic of Korea. They succeeded in this goal. China was fighting for the survival of the DPRK, they succeeded in this goal. The DPRK was fighting to unify the peninsula, they failed in this goal.
Both the Chinese and the United Nations at some point attempted to unify the peninsula, both failed in this goal equally.
