why do webcams still suck so hard in 2024?
I read that it is because there wouldn't be any point in developing them to be better, because then you would just be developing something that is almost the same as a DLSR camera
so I wonder, can I get a DLSR camera as a webcam, would the tax authorities accept that as a business expense, I wonder
>guy, you are an IT consultant, not a photographer, why you need this? I don't accept it as business expense motherfricker!!
>but I use it as a webcam because the computer industry decided that webcams must keep sucking and you need to get DLSR cam if you want a better webcam
would it work I wonder this logic...
Have you tried buying a less shitty webcam?
>Have you tried buying a less shitty webcam?
i bought the most expensive version of logitech brio and it was not as good as you'd hope for at that price point. However I ultimately returned it among other reasons and one reaoson was that the usb cable stuck out horizontally at the back, it seemed like an engineering flaw that surely spelled trouble to me, the weight of the cable pulling down perpendicularly on that port non stop
If dumbass ethots can get high quality equipment that's good enough to show all the wrinkles on their bleached butthole from a meter away, then I'm sure you can figure out a solution to your moronic problem.
And learn how to secure cables.
I'm not sure what you are suggesting here. Are you suggesting that they use webcams or larger lens cameras of some sort?
Or are you giving me practical arguments to use during a fiscal audit to justify an expensive camera?
I'm saying that you're more helpless and less intelligent than internet prostitutes. I have no further contribution to your plight.
you are implying several things that are wrong but I am glad that your "contributions" end here
>several things that are wrong
lol no
Well for one, he seemed to imply that webcam prostitutes are figuring out all this shit by themselves, when in reality, it is probably all arranged for them by technicians
2160p 60FPS webcams are literally plug and play you fricking Black person, what "technician" are you talking about
>2160p 60FPS webcam
Does that even really exist?
No
honestly such a based Anon
>I'm saying that you're more helpless and less intelligent than internet prostitutes
kkekkekk
They use mirrorless cameras and feed it to their streaming desktop with HDMI capture card. There's no overheating if you're not recording on device. And mirrorless have no moving parts so you're not wearing anything out.
Why is everyone on IQfy so fricking stupid they can't put this together.
>Why is everyone on IQfy so fricking stupid they can't put this together.
well there is a lot of stuff to know in the world, the things that are common knowledge to you are new to other me, but I probably know a lot of stuff that would totally brain blast you into depression
in conclusion, would you then say it might be worth getting a mirrorless camera as a webcam? any particular model you would recommend?
bro you're fricking moronic and autistic.
Secure the cable to the headliner above so the weight's not resting on it. Although even if you didn't do this it's probably a non issue.
I've been using the same Viofo dashcam for like 5 years now and never had an issue.
less shitty webcam cost like $500. it's better to just buy a camera and stream directly into your PC.
>so I wonder, can I get a DLSR camera as a webcam
No, as DLSRs are pretty worthless for continuous video.
>would the tax authorities accept that as a business expense, I wonder
I have never heard of tax authorities being that picky about what tools you use for your business.
>No, as DLSRs are pretty worthless for continuous video.
also seems not like practical solution, very large, wires everywhere, battery issues probably...
>I have never heard of tax authorities being that picky about what tools you use for your business.
could also use it to take professional looking pictures for my website and other marketing activities
they might claim that it is not a 100 percent deductible since you probably also use it privately, but that could be applied to all IT accessories
they shoot 8k ads on DSLR nowdays
My buddy tried this, i think he got about 30 mins of video before the sensor started overheating and the camera shut off. It was an older dslr so maybe modern stuff would work better but i doubt it
DSLRs and cameras of any type that are not explicitly designated as video cameras have a 30/29:59 recording/video limit due to some legal homosexualry.
>so I wonder, can I get a DLSR camera as a webcam,
Yes but the mirror control solenoid will overheat.
yeah, I think it's not good solution, just need to find the best webcam that is out there, improve lighting, and make the best of it
same reason you can still buy laptops with 1280x720p displays
manufacturers don't gotta change shit if the masses continue to chug the pathetic dredges of slop
my customers always b***h to me about my poor webcam image quality, so it is not completely made up requirement
>my customers always b***h to me about my poor webcam image quality
Why do they care? Are you an ASL interpreter or an acting coach or something?
>Why do they care? Are you an ASL interpreter or an acting coach or something?
people are used to certain standards even when they have no practical use case
why do people need 4k computer screens to push emails and juggle spreadsheets?
stop asking stupid irrelevant questions motherfricker
>juggle spreadsheets
Even Globohomosexual stock photographers know why this is useful...
>doh
I love me some spreadsheet crunching too, it feels like you are accomplishing something without actually doing so
some people also have suggested using my phone as a webcam, I've tested the option, but it doesn't work reliably while being connected to calls on both your computer and your phone just for the camera (assuming I need the computer to be presenting stuff)
also a lot of messing about with the phone, multiple devices, single signon shit, in practical terms the "just use your phone bro" suggestion is worthless
Buy a second phone
you don't need more
Insta360 Link
>so I wonder, can I get a DLSR camera as a webcam
don't do this. why? you're like that gay that gets a boom and a homosexual condenser microphone like some la la homosexual man just to talk for stupid ass meetings.
If you're poor just use your phone and an app.
If you're rich get an entry level DSLR/point and shoot with HDMI out and a usb capture card.
If you need something that just werks get a C920/C921/C922.
If you can get your company to pay for it (expenses or whatever) get a Brio or a streamcam.
Ez.
>If you can get your company to pay for it (expenses or whatever) get a Brio or a streamcam.
yeah, I will do something like this
Actually consider the Obsbot/Insta360 camera's as they can follow you round the room which is useful if you have ADHD and walk/talk or if you have a whiteboard.
i've been using the Insta360 more recently as super flexibly for lecturing but it all depends. If you're literally just sat at a desk then a Brio/streamcam is more than enough.
Imo it's the same with photography - lighting is everything. A cheapo Amazon ring light or even a desk lamp nearby is good.
I have been considering either insta360 or Elgato Facecam Pro
Now that what you mentions about whiteboard is interesting, not sure if I would really need it, and if I don't, then maybe it is not a feature but a bad thing since it will be moving everytime i Fidget
If you have a phone with a good camera you can use your phone as a webcam
>can I get a DLSR camera as a webcam
Yes.
But you'll probably want a fairly large depth of field unless you keep your head at the exact same distance.
So a crop sensor and a kit lens is probably already optimal.
>would the tax authorities accept that as a business expense, I wonder
Meh, I'm assuming they'll accept my 4090 as a business expense.
It probably differs per country but here in The Netherlands they hardly ever check and when they do they don't dig too hard unless you commit serious fraud.
Shoot a few pictures for your website if you're worried.
I'm kinda thinking that I will not be able to figure all this shit out, seems pretty complicated, even using it as a normal camera for pictures seems complicated, I wonder how hard it is to learn how to use properly, just aim point and shoot maybe it will be easy after all
>even using it as a normal camera for pictures seems complicated
It's not.
You only have to set 3 things: aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
Most DSLR's also have a "full moron" mode where it does everything automatically, just like any phone or point and shoot.
You have an old phone, right. Set up droidcam and just use that as your webcam. Phone cameras are fantastic compared to webcams.
Small cameras suck. Period. You need a lot of space to make a good camera system but people want tiny compact things that appear "sleek" and "futuristic." Phone cameras suck ass too but they slap on 9001 post processing filters that rape the CPU to make a somewhat presentable image.
yeah, I hired a photographer once, who used massive sized cameras, too pictures from what seemed to me like an unreasonable distance, and the pictures came out breath taking
I am tired of shit phone quality pictures, what camera would you recommend to a first time user? (this question is kinda unrelated to the topic of this thread, my add mind is being side tracked)
Do some reading on basic photography principles. Bigger sensor = more light and photography is all about light. Using a lens with a long focal length eliminates distortions and helps with separating the subject from the background. You should do your own research before deciding which camera you want to buy because there are a lot of factors and budgeting options. I started out with a Nikon D3300 because I like vintage Nikon lenses and those still work on their digital cameras. I moved on to a full frame D800 which has served me well and I have no plans to upgrade any time soon.
>I like vintage Nikon lenses
HOW fricking far back is your camera for when using as a webcam? 20 feet?
>what camera would you recommend to a first time user?
2nd hand DSLR.
If you don't like it you can always sell it again and get your money back.
The higher end models are actually easier to use because they have more physical controls vs. having to dive into menus to change things.
Full frame sensor isn't strictly necessary but you get a bigger view through the viewfinder when the sensor is bigger and that makes shooting DSLR's a lot more fun.
If you have any friends with a DSLR consider getting the same brand so you can borrow lenses.
Literally any DSLR in the last 10 years will work fine. The biggest factor when comparing to phone cameras is sensor size. Phone sensors are tiny, and the raw captures are noisy and look like shit. A lot of clever techniques are used to get a good image out of such tiny sensors, but a DSLR doesn’t require them to get nice shots. Just pick up a second hand DSLR of any known brand and it’ll serve to get you started. No reason to shell out if you don’t have an active interest in photography and money to sink into the hobby.
That is the conclusion of this thread. Size matters (no homo)
Amazing
this is pretty interesting, scroll immediately to the end to see the drastic difference between a real camera
https://gamingcareers.com/reviews/facecam-pro/
Whatever camera you use, make sure you have good lighting. You could have the most expensive camera in the world but it will still look like shit in your dingy basement. Open the curtains and get a ring light or something.
The problem is that my window is behind me, I feel apprehensive of switching my setup around for my fengshui (serious)
You could get a mirror (or tin foil or a white sheet if you're poor) to reflect the light coming from behind you. See if you can manually adjust your webcam's exposure settings. Most cameras on automatic mode will look at what it's shooting and try to adjust its settings so the average brightness value is in the middle between black and white. So if blinding bright sunlight is filling up half the frame, it will compensate by making the rest much darker.
that's helpful advice, I have been thinking about mirrors as well
thanks
I would buy a photography reflector instead.
They're cheap, easy to place and you can fold them up.
great idea, seems less invasive, more easily to move out of the way

the tldr seems to be just get the insta360 and call it a day if it's for high quality video calls and nothing more
top streamers use mirrorless cameras and yes youd definitely be able to claim it as a business expense
>youd definitely be able to claim it as a business expense
I guess as long as I can prove that I use it as a webcam, and it is not just something I use to take pictures at the beach
A webcam needs to pipe an image over a conference call, where quality is not important so long as it's above a certain threshold. The lens and sensor are larger than on a cell phone, but a webcam and its drivers don't have the cheat algorithms and filters that are run to make phone camera images look acceptable.
Good compact cameras are great, Sony ZV-1 with its articulating screen (practical feature) is one you might look into. Also, you can hook up your phone unless you are one of those Nokia luddite phones. that will not break the bank. (you can add extra tripods, lights, microphones and so on to either type setup)
I have some kind of possibly "too much" conclusion now from this thread, I think it would be good to have both the Insta360 Link strapped to my monitor ready to go at any time, and also have a dslr to explore what it can bring to the table and if it's not needed, just use it for pictures at the beach, after it has been written off fiscally of course
Why do you carre anon it's just a zoom meeting. Nobody cares about your video quality. Probably gets compressed to shit anyway. Before you spend $3000 on camera shit why don't you try just making the room you're in brighter? Cheaper cameras with smaller sensors don't deal with low light well.
the search for a better quality webcam is not driven by the goal of achieving extremely high resolution effect, but to manage bad lighting better. I have noticed that the logitech mx bio did a much better job at this than the built in laptop webcam, so don't tell me that this is not a thing
just turn on more lights anon. I can't imagine buying real photo gear just to look pretty for your zoom meetings. Are people complaining that they can't see you?
I just ordered the insta360, I was convinced by this nerd's analysis

on second thought, cancelling the order, the autotracking seems kind of a liability if it cannot be disabled
>get recommendation from an eceleb and a redditor
>get scared away from it by IQfy paranoia
now I am reading german amazon reviews, by what appear to be real people, I put a lot of stock into those
review for the competition: elgato facecam pro: guy recommends insta360 in the review for beter performance in suboptimal lighting conditions

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good enough

I bought the Elgato Facecam Pro and tested it on Windows and Mac. First reaction from colleagues was: The previous webcam (Jabra Panacast) was better. Something like that shouldn't happen at all. In particular, the exposure setting was a problem with Elgato and did not work well. Maybe it works with optimal studio lighting, but at work you may also have a window on one side through which the sun shines in. I have now bought and compared the Inst360 Link: Simply great. The AI face tracking works great, the lighting is unproblematic and the image quality in MS Teams, for example, is up to date. And compared to Facecam Pro, it is super small and portable. At a comparable price, I can only advise everyone to also take a look at the Insta360 Link.

ok, I am ordering it after all (I am easily swayed)
now searching for the opposite reviews: elgato mentions in insta360 product reviews, also interesting

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but unfortunately pretty much the best webcam on the market

The price will certainly take your breath away. But I have to say that the picture quality is on a completely different level than Razer, Logitech, Microsoft, etc.
Elgato is the most likely to come along, but only if you play with the settings. With the link, this is simply not necessary and the image is excellent even in extremely poor lighting conditions. With good lighting, the distance is of course shorter, so a Logitech Brio 500, for example, also looks quite okay. But normal users in particular simply don't have studio lighting.
The Insta360 Link is extremely small but completely made of metal and feels very robust. It can also be used with all features without installing the software, so you can activate tracking by tapping on the camera with your finger. The only drawback is the price, which is really a bit high. That's why only 4 stars here.
However, it is really pretty much the best webcam on the market right now. Before I spend 120 euros for a medium disappointment, I would buy the link again.

key take away is, that this seems to deliver reasonable result in poor lighting situation (which is my situation)
if you have an iphone and mac, you can use your iphone as the webcam seamlessly.
I ended up ordering razor kiyo ultra. It has the biggest sensor out of the offerings and is plug and play. I imagine it will be decent.
No actually I am canceling it. Frick all this shit. Laptop webcam will need to be enough.
What a relief. In the end I spent 0 euros. Good night
yes, e-thots might have eye tracking milc with hdmi streamer and studio lights
but then there is original anima libera vid
>find 2 logitech 1080p webcams at salvation army
>9.99 each
shits good imo
I bought this Aukey webcam for 40 canuck bux during the coof and it looks good enough for zoom meetings. Surface devices still mog everything else in regards to webcame quality, however
Why do moronic boomers insist on seeing employees on a fricking webcam? There's literally nothing wrong with a voice call... or text. There is not even one good reason.
the only use webcams have is windows hello and the occasional interview.
