This, except convenience is the reason that I do all this stuff in MacOS. It *just works* and it's fast and the workflow is very, very good. I can't imagine having to do AV editing in Windows or Linux anymore. I use those for games and coding/gens, respectively.

    Energy costs nothing

it's about the waste heats effects on your components and heating your room during summer, not the measly cost of electricity.

Cooling fans remove the excess heat and keep the temp close enough to ambient temp

            and require more energy

Not enough money to offset $2000 price difference.

The difference between 20 watt and 100 watt is 80 watts. 80 watts during 3 months of summer. vs 80 watts during 9 months of not summer to heat up the room. If its 8 hours usage every day for those 3 months, thats 540 hours in a year of "excess" 80watts of heat generated. With prices of 20 cents per kwh, thats $20 per month or $60 per summer.

Or 33 years to offset the $2000 extra premium. Its absolutely a non-starter.

I use my system as a server, as a gaming machine, as a VM box, as a casual browsing, as I see fit.

The system allows me to use 256GB quad channel setup and multitask these many things at the same time.

Speaking of waste, ever asked a girl hoe much data they use per month (or per day)???
I was recently enlightened that women and gays all get infinite data contracts and will burn through 10-50GB per day.

As someone who uses <2GB/month this is insane to me

It would cost you more to get an acceptable amount of RAM in an Apple machine than to pay the slightly higher power bill on the PC.
