why gentoo

Linux bro's, why Gentoo?
Explain it to me.

Ubuntu: easy to use and widely compatible with applications who have wide compatibility with Windows world, therefore work related, distro is about compatibility and stability priorized over getting newest packages

Arch: everything is newest shit you can possibly have and you can even make powerful gayming with it (I am not a gaymer though)

Debian: even older stuff than Ubuntu but I guess very stable

Gentoo: ??? you compile everything by yourself, what have you won?

I hear it's a lot of fun. If you like computers then compiling your own software is a fun and interesting use of time.

Arch linux is pretty complicated and you need to be able to read a manual

Most packages are offered as binaries. Cope. You can set it to only compile of you want to change use flags. Cope. Reddit. Sneed.

How does this have anything to do with giving an explanation or reason as to why use Gentoo?

have you used it? it does everything i want. maybe not for you, but its the best distro for me. thanks for the question hope that clears it up

It's the most up-to-date widely adopted distro that doesn't ship with systemd. That is it. The minor speed improvements you get by optimizing kernel modules and compiler flags for your system are eaten up by the time it takes you to compile EVERYTHING and it's not like you can't use software that you compiled from source on other distros.

the time it takes to compile everything is irrelevant, you low IQ subhuman and a poorgay.

1.) how do you think it functioned, say, 10 years ago?
        2.) use flags
        3.) /etc/portage/patches

we've gone full circle now where customizability has to be explained like it had to be before windows users started skinning their audio players with most inane stuff.

here you go saar, full explanation of why we choose Gentoo
You may also see people suggest using it in an ironic fashion to persons that ask moronic questions. The idea is that since they are moronic, they will attempt to install Gentoo and fail. But since their computer will not have a working OS they won't be able to return and ask more moronic questions.
And yeah I used Gentoo in the past, don't see a need for it today

Gentoo is for Noobs. Linux From Scratch is for Pros. If you're gonna be using Linux anyway, why be a Linux Noob? Go all the way in! Install Linux From Scratch.

    control.
people get caught up on the everything built from source thing since they're midwits.
gentoo isn't about having the latest stuff,
(by default the absolute latest packages aren't installed)
    or the fastest stuff,
(improvements are gonna be slim unless you test unstable optimizations with every package)
foundationally gentoo is about about control.
the only reason building from source is the default is to facilitate said control.
with portage, arguably the best package manager, and some additional tools for comfort, you can do whatever the hell you want. if you want to strip cjk characters out of nearly every package you can do it, you wanna install systemd you can do it, you wanna install multiple versions of the same package you can do it. list goes on.
    simple as.

    >arch
arch is very similar, gentoo even uses arch-chroot during install in fact, and you do get a wide margin of control, but not on the compiler flag level unless you're using mostly PKGBUILDs from the AUR at which point you'd be better off with gentoo+guru overlay. arch also doesn't support non systemd init systems and anything that isnt x86_64, limiting your control over your init system and hardware

You have won Gentoo. The purpose of Gentoo is Gentoo. That not Gentoo is inferior to Gentoo at being Gentoo hence a waste of time. Simple as.

Linux does not "just werks" not unless you build your kernel manually
