      always in women's what?

I'm inclined to believe that is something akin to a book tube channel but for TikTok though I'm unsure

      What is booktok

There's a feature on twitter called vine where 30+ year old white women pretend to be 16 year old white girls, "booktok" is a subset where they talk about books with Black folks in them

The character is written to be an unlikeable piece of shit but certain types are really drawn to that and don't realize Holden's wrong about everything the entire time.

He's written to be a slightly exaggerated average teenager, and non-psychopaths find that relatable.

I'm not sure why anyone would care what is in a female "booktok" much less care wtf that even is, but if you really need to know it is because it is a shit book, and liking it means you have poor taste, women generally don't like that.

Men shouldn't read anything but YA

Lit needs a YA chart. For young men looking to develop taste.

anon they assign this book in schools. it's not hard to find literature accessible to teens. genre fiction isn't going to teach them anything about taste anyways.

The real answer is that multiple would-be-assassins/mass shooters in the 20th century were obsessed with it.

Because it's the quintessential incel book?

Because women hate the idea of a male protagonist as anything that's not non-threatening, and fear that sort of character becoming popular with men, mainly the risk that a minority of men will misunderstand what makes the character interesting and instead go around whitewashing the protagonist's deficits or flawed nature, which would in turn raise the risk of violence towards women.

Holden is hated by women because he spits in the face of the YA teen male archetype that women tend to fall in love with (either they want to be him or lust for him). Holden is a deeply traumatized young man who is exceptionally jaded and cynical and who only learns his lesson AT THE END (and literally checks into a mental ward). He's too male in a very real way that women can't relate to.

the women i've talked to about this irl who actually read often seem super understanding towards Holden and bring up his trauma and how protective he is of phoebe etc... or at worst they're just ambivalent about the whole book and see it as a guy thing.

No one who actually reads would talk about the book this way so OP shouldn't waste his time. If you think you can impress women with your literary taste ngmi and that's especially so if you're still invested in a book for 15 year olds. if you liked it you should look at it fondly like you would a Hardy Boys chapter book or something, and if you didn't just forget about it.

I think this book became a bit infamous because John Lennon's murderer was obsessed with it. Since then it became associated with unhinged loners and crazy men.

incels like it because "holden is literally me"

the ascended like it because holden reminds them of a younger, misguided version of themselves

women don't want to date incels or ex-incels, so this is a reliable signal to avoid a man

Trust me, these women are the worst type of people and would reject any man who's not abusive or a cuck.

The kind of person that relates to a misanthropic dickhead like Holden is also the kind of person that secretly thinks women's rights are a mistake.
