Why is writing often used as a textbook benchmark of civilisation when until recently the majority of the world's population were functionally illiterate and historically plenty of civilizations adopted writing styles from other peoples.
And why are oral histories dismissed so readily when they are far more complex to establish and maintain than writing?
The idea that there are still illiterate "people" in the age of mass entertainment media like TV is beyond me. I taught myself to read by watching TV commercials and later comparing what I had heard with written commercials and brand names I would encounter in the store.
Post-literate is a more accurate term. It’s not that people can’t read it’s just that they have no interest or incentive in reading anything but advertisements, political slogans, and traffic signs
Being capable of reading written language is the very basics of literacy. Most people can barely write a coherent paragraph or understand a text not written with 13 year olds in mind.
why is everyone on the picture White?
Most whites are lower class and dumb as frick
see: America
because you live in post-enlightenment "culture"
Because you severely underestimate what a piece of A4 paper with instructions can do.
This can't be fricking true, how can people like that even function in the modern world? Do they have their damn phone reading everything out for them?
They can read things like the menu at McDonalds but anything above a third grade reading level simply can’t hold their interest. The correct term isn't illiteracy it is post-literacy.
>Why is writing often used as a textbook benchmark of civilization when until recently the majority of the world's population were functionally illiterate
Because you can't run a technologically advanced system if you can't communicate by other means than talking directly to people. It's true that your average Joe being able to read was basically a useless trait until the advent of mass-communications ~100-200 years ago, but to manage a society more advanced than a neolithic village, you need literate people to keep track of things. And the rule of thumb is: The more literacy a society requires, the more advanced it is, as more people are required to purely keep track of things
>20% of the people who pass exams can't even read
How does this work?
Just because peope have piss poor reading comprehension, doesn't mean they literally cannot read
But any question that goes more in-depth than two sentences, or describing one clear task is too much for them
However, to pass (barely, but still) one just needs to be able to do those extremely clear questions
Just guess on the multiple choice questions and hope you get lucky.
Because history is written by evil wh*te "people" who value wh*te bullshit such as "literacy", "knowledge", and "communication."
Wordcels keep losing
How the frick are illiterates passing high school? I genuinely don’t understand how that’s possible. Are their passing credits all coming from gym and art classes?
>Desquarious doesn't read so well but if he doesn't graduate it look back on the racial equality report and affect our government funding
>look bad*
Lots of Whites are also functionally illiterate. But sure, let’s cope and sneed and blame blacks like always
He's not asking about illiteracy per se, but about people who get pushed through high school and graduate while being illiterate. This is incentivized regarding minorities.
>90% of Black folk are moronic
>yeah but a lot of whites are too
