Why isn't this book recognized as a modern classic again? Excellent prose, not throwback, excellent explorations of themes of nihilism and anti-natalism, multi-faceted in its observations etc.

It's reddit-core
cormac mccarthy is 1000 times more reddit than this
No.
It's not well written and appeals to tabloid concerns
name a better written modern novel. "tabloid concerns" is such a superficial criticism since we know you jerk off to dostoevsky and mccarthy.
McCarthy has written "modern" novels. In fact nearly half of McCarthy's novels are contemporaries of We Need to Talk About Kevin (the 1990's are contemporary to 2005 since you're considering 2005 contemporary to 2022). I think nearly every one on this board would agree McCarthy's novels from Blood Meridian and onward are better than We Need to Talk About Kevin.

mccarthy is a terrible writer compared to shriver though, it's just for new vegas players who want to feel literate. it's glorified genre fiction.
The second part of this is pretty good bait, but you blew your load too early, nobody would ever unironically call Shriver better than McCarthy kek. Shitposting has potential but needs work
i would because its true u sheep
keep coping redditor in denial
The only thing this shit book ever gave us was Tilda swinton pretending to be human for almost two hours. To no one's surprise she did a terrible job.
>Excellent prose
do you only read genre fic normally? lmao
you probably think dostoevskys books are "good prose". because dostoevsky.
Is this the one where he goes on a shooting spree with a bow and arrow?
Frick archery gays. AR-15 for the high score.
I had some ex-friend talk about it constantly. he's an ex-friend because he didn't convince me
It's got a YA-tier title.
Probably because it has a daily mail quote on the title tbh.
*Quote on the cover. I was reading
