They do. When it prompts for a key during installation, click skip. Activation will fail, but it will still work and update normally.

It does, it just shows a watermark in the corner of the desktop like Windows 7 did. But unlike 7 it doesn't stop working after being like that for 30 days.

It hasn't been, since last year. Recent Windows 11 builds do not let you skip activation. Looks like I know more about windows than you do.

I'm still on 10. I like its taskbar better. I'm willing to deal with the new one once they add some compelling new feature I want. But until then I'm leaving my TPM disabled in UEFI settings.

Bullshit, I installed win11 with no activation in february and used it for a few weeks before activating with Massgrave. Which isn't even piracy by the way, because every file I copied was legit and approved by copyright holders. Linux is better tbh.

Linux runs most of the professional computers that run the internet plus most business/science computations

More now than ever that many use android or windows merely to send an image but "the cloud" of Linux computers does the actual OCR and filing of the data (as an example).

Did you manage to keep your Windows updated even between versions and with a migration from x86 to x86_64 since 2009?

I can see how if you run that one game on Steam and just suck up whatever popups, menu change and whatever else Microsoft throws your way, you maybe don't care as much.

But if you have many things configured and want or need to keep them that way, Windows is really rather horrible.

I've done it quite many times before; often it's indeed just that one present/missing section of code that fricks you.

On a longer term perspective, remember how many Windows users would have liked to retain various (not all) bits of XP? So many times the new UI were shit and would have been best skipped.

          > Yet it's still like not even 4% of all computers in the world.
Almost all the other computers use them. most of the apps people use (shopping, social networks, whatsapp skype or whatever for communications, web browsers in general, music cloud services, you name it) don't work without these 4%.

This is also true on the business side in many ways.

          > The same things could be created and done in windows if people wanted to.
No. In reality at the moment you don't have Microsoft's permission or support in changing out the respective parts of Windows, and you need both to do something like get an actually performant (and prioritized-over-other-tasks) bcachefs or JFS driver into the OS or change the network schedulers or so many other things people did.

You also aren't going to adopt a version of it for the smartphone you want to sell the way you want it to run (maybe with cortana replaced with your file search and no .net? not gonna happen unless Microsoft really really wants to do it).

It literally is an adapted version of Linux and while it has special parts, it's not even much more special than a Linux version running musl instead of glibc.

There are a ton of Linux userland libs being used all over the Android userland apps too.

            Anonymous Mogul

It might be an adapted version but it's so far split from it no one would consider it a linux OS lol. Unless you just want to call Linux Unix from now on.

            Anonymous

The primary argument is that in fact Windows COULDN'T be adapted for practical-legal-other reasons. Linux meanwhile COULD and WAS adapted.

This affects Android as much as the (actually multiple) Linux distros that only let end users to operate k8s or docker containers or that use musl instead of glibc.

But there's *also* that they're in large parts not technologically maintained separately. Like parts from the actual kernels get copypasted (well, via git usually) from Desktop Linux to Android and back, as do various other libs.

            Anonymous Mogul

Windows can and has been adapted. No one wants to go through the security measures to do it right is all, people are lazy and terrible at doing things correctly. Linux makes it easy because you can just put a shitty layer on top of an already existent base but it doesn't make it better.

Old phones just came into the smartphone game doing things regular people weren't cool enough for because it wasn't dumbed down for them. Are you saying that this linux can run on a computer without windows underneath it, at all ? As in, without a boot disk, without any drivers, and without any services ?
    That sounds preposterous to me.
If it were true (and I doubt it), then companies would be selling computers without a windows. This clearly is not happening, so there must be some error in your calculations. I hope you realise that windows is more than just Office ? Its a whole system that runs the computer from start to finish, and that is a very difficult thing to acheive. A lot of people dont realise this.
Microsoft just spent $9 billion and many years to create Windows 10, so it does not sound reasonable that some new alternative could just snap into existence overnight like that. It would take billions of dollars and a massive effort to achieve. IBM tried, and spent a huge amount of money developing OS/2 but could never keep up with Windows. Apple tried to create their own system for years, but finally gave up recently and moved to Intel and Microsoft.
Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer fron start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows. Not possible.
I think you need to re-examine your assumptions.

Why are linux autists always so annoying? I don't even hate linux, but you guys argue about the dumbest shit for no reason when you're wrong every time.

      ??
What's the point of this thread? You ask us question and then get annoyed when you are answered? What kind of moronation is this?

Are you wondering why these blatant troll threads that violate the only rule in the sticky are never deleted while the mod is literally in these threads all day deleting posts?

It was parched out within hours and the patch released within 3 days to all affected distros. Cry harder.

So I just tried to install 11 on my system. My buddy made me a Windows 11 USB from his pc. Mind you I haven't ran Windows since 7. I don't have any licenses tied into this new motherboard. You can't skip when it asks for a product key. I was going to make a thread about this. I tried to use a 7 pro key and it did not work.

It's funny because Microsoft regularly siphons their data through telemetry but they're somehow fine with it. An ssh exploit that affected 4% of distros that was patched within 3 days that only affected 0.2% of actual users under special circumstances is somehow a big deal ... Gimme a break.

You know discord troony mods will not bat an eyelid when obvious troll is shitting up a thread with off topic trolling/spam, but the moment you say something about their pedophile tranime groomer cult, these discord troony mods will instantly come and ban you. Watch:

    FOR
    TRANNIES.

See you all after I reset my router.
