Why the frick is dark mode so popular? Am I the only one that prefers light mode?
Dark mode hurts to look at. I have 20/20 vision so maybe that's why I don't need to use dark mode. Or maybe people don't know how to adjust their screen's brightness and/or are using some trash display.

Watching IQfy being a ouroboros of contrarianism never stops being funny.
Look at the OP pic and tell me the one on the left isn't easier on the eyes.
It isn't. I won't even bother enlarging it since even thumbnail is burning on eyes.
Right is much easier on the eyes.
As a developer for 30 years I've always used dark themes for my code and consoles.
I've seen light mode gain and lose popularity.
Young people always seethe when their little fad gets outdated.
>Right is much easier on the eyes.
not for me.
are you trolling or are you a dumb Black person? Go to a dark room and display a full white screen on your monitor (doesn't need to be OLED, literally any screen will do). Now look around you and notice how much your room is illuminated by the screen. Now display black color and look around again.
>notice how much your room is illuminated by the screen
>She doesn't know how to adjust screen brightness
Kek
I'm just trying to make you understand why dark theme is easier on the eyes, not white theme, you dumb Black person.
You should not be using your computer or any device in the dark, it hurts your eyes
if you have the light on then light mode will be better
>if you have the light on then light mode will be better
Because?
I've never been a fan of dark mode. Reading light text on black background causes ghosting. I have always considered dark mode to be a reddit meme.
>causes ghosting
only a problem on old shitty oleds, ltpo screens have 0 ghosting
You realize dark mode was contrarian once?
Stop overusing every new word you learn.
>dumbshit ESL doesn't know what an ouroboros is
Not that word. You're using "contrarian" too much.
>missing the point due to being an ESL
NTA but this a dumb post, you should delete this.
I am ESL yes. And I won't.
literally only NEETs who wake up at 5PM use darkmode. it looks like shit during the day.
>Apple mobile
Light mode is better on that, and you can even get why if you know anything about UI design and aesthetics
t. I use both, seethe
This anon also gets it, just program the switch, but the matter goes beyond daytime-nighttime
Same on desktops, depends on the task (but dark wins)
poorgay doesn't have an OLED display and doesn't understand what it means to have infinitely high contrast + extra battery life thread
also no, dark mode is easier on the eyes, you probably just aren't used to it
way less blue light too which helps with sleep, and on many displays the lowest brightness is still too bright (not only on "trash displays" and that's also fixed with dark mode
>extra battery life thread
>Has a device with a shit battery and calls other people poorgays
Kek. A good display is exactly why you can turn the brightness down. It will still look good unlike a shit display that you need to crank up the brightness to 100% and use cope mode.

For real? I have a huge problem with eye floaters. Yes, I've been to many an opthamologist, and the answer is always, "indeed you have many floaters". Can't really do shit about it except a full vitrectomy which comes with its own risks.
But light mode is unbearable. Having a white light source going directly into my eyes highlights every damned one of them and my whole visual field is a mass of the things, which is incredibly distracting for getting any work done. Dark mode on the other hand make things 80% better.
Light mode helps your pupils properly constrict or dilate. You aren't damaging your retinas. Dark mode on the other hand tricks your pupils into dilating while your retinas get blasted with full brightness from the text.
This is why adjusting screen brightness is better than using cope modes.
Imagine being so limp wristed a computer screen can burn your retina.
Never go outside Anon, sunlight is thousands of times more intense.
Go into a dark room and stare at a flashlight. Now go into a properly lit room and look at something dark. You're insane if you think staring at a flashlight in a dark room is more comfortable on the eyes.
>Bright white text on black vs black text on light
Every screen has a backlight. Each pixel is 3 small rgb bits of plastic the light comes through. They actually block the light from coming through to control the brightness of each color. You don't get "fully blasted" looking at a dark screen. The only time you get fully blasted is when it's white and the screen lets 100% of the light through.
>Source on why pupils constrict and dilate in response to light levels

This
But you should have a normal light in the background, never use your computer in the dark
I have the exact same problem and still prefer white themes.
I now have one that is right near the central vision that I hate so fricking much it is awful on a white background
People have different preferences.
Dark mode is objectively worse if you have any kind of vision impairment though, especially astigmatism
That would be because your pupils get smaller when there is a lot of light.
When you have good eyes (or good glasses) you can see sharper with wider pupils because you get less diffraction.
super interesting, thanks! one of my eyes has a major astigmatism and I bet this is why dark mode is annoying to me.
dark mode fricks up your sleep cycle. you need a lot of light during the day
>I have 20/20 vision so maybe that's why I don't need to use dark mode.
Lol, what does that have to do with anything?
People with poor eyesight are more likely to use dark mode since they can't cope with looking at photons.

Some people really like it. Girlfriend has it on 24/7, I just use it during the night
1) Most phones these days have AMOLED screens so not using dark mode is just silly
2) Computer screens are black by default, they only became white by default to cater to Xillenials who liked paper
3) "Light mode" these days literally means staring into a blinding fricking white light. It didn't used to be this bad before the 2011 flatshit revolution
There's some blog that routinely gets posted to orange reddit that literally has a FFFF00 yellow background and even that is 10x easier on the eyes than white despite objectively being only 7% darker.
Appendix) You're fricking stupid and I know this part is bait but people with poor vision have a harder time with dark mode because of haloing, not the other way around.
>There's some blog that routinely gets posted to orange reddit that literally has a FFFF00 yellow background and even that is 10x easier on the eyes than white despite objectively being only 7% darker.
Holy shit blogs and forums with locked dark mode are fricking unusable. It's so uncomfortable idk how people are okay with staring at white text on black background like holy frick come on now. One of the worst memes to come to modern UIs.
Why did you quote me if what you were going to say had nothing to do with what you quoted?

My mom and dad also prefer light mode, big letters and max volume at all times.
you forgot max brightness at all times
>Dark mode hurts to look at
Why are zoomers such homosexuals, in the 80s and early 90s you had no choice, the only mode was dark mode
It's just NEETs that haven't seen sunlight in weeks
>Why the frick is dark mode so popular?
Because the normies think it's more better.

People, especially in the security space, seem to associate dark mode with "better".
>Am I the only one that prefers light mode?
yes
Light mode is like staring at a scorching white sun. Absolutely nobody uses it.
Most light themes are just bad
Good ones are not searing white or one colour
Have you tried adjusting your screen's brightness? You do know how to adjust brightness, right zoom-zoom? Dark mode is a meme like "muh blue bubbles" - text message bubble colors you cannot customize in the year 2030-6.
Easier on the eyes inside. Pure black saves battery on OLED.
>Pure black saves battery on OLED
grey also saves just as much battery moron
https://www.xda-developers.com/amoled-black-vs-gray-dark-mode/
"So actually AMOLED black does save battery but it's negligible because I say so"

what the frick is your problem?
>When displaying an "AMOLED black" image, the OnePlus 7 Pro consumed an average of 600mW — the same difference of 400mW in our modeling above. And finally, when measuring dark gray, the device consumed an average between 600mW-610mW
Wow 610 is much higher than 600. I think AMOLED wins here
>is much higher
no it's not, literally margin of error
Professional electrician here. It's much higher and will drain your battery so much faster. Use pure black with your OLED screen whenever possible
>0.063% per hour drains your battery much faster

>dark mode is for based neets
Thing is it's super popular among normies too. Using light mode is racist and politically incorrect now just like having green bubbles. You're viewed as an weird outcast.

Based. Use developer colors or get bullied, JACOB
Flatshit made designers forget how to produce stuff with actual contrast and no eye-raping pure white background with pastel colors. Dark mode is a cope for that.
No, same for me, dark mode is for drooljack.
White background focuses contracts your iris and makes dark text sharper.
Unless I'm doing something completely unproductive, I use bright mode, besides the terminal which became a habit.
>White background focuses contracts your iris and makes dark text sharper.
This is it. You explained why dark mode looks fricky. I'm able to focus properly on text with light mode. Looking at a dark screen is fine but when there is bright text it becomes eye rape.
>besides the terminal which became a habit.
I just made a light color scheme for mine.
dark mode its popular because its better
i keep all my screens on minimum brightness. i have my whole system themed with gruvbox (hard contrast version) and its perfect. just because your "dark mode" looks shit doesn't mean all of it is crap.
>the absolute state of IQfy "technology" board
There's so much better discussions in less famous boards, this shit is so cringe
I prefer light because my eyes aren't shit.
>I am better than you because I like having large amounts of light blasting into my eyes
I like light mode as well
makes me feel more productive in code or w/e
just feels like I'm more awake and I can see shit better lol
white mode for is perfect if you experience glare or reflections, but dark mode need is variable. for me coding in light mode would be very uncozy.
I use dark mode, since to me it feels slightly easier to look at all day but aesthetically I like light mode more.
Because a bunch of genetic dead end tough that the reason their eye sight is so bad was because they stare at the screen for too long instead of blaming their parents for giving them shit genes.
True is started at dark backgrounds causes myopia and astigmatism
tomorrow style chads ww@
>20/20 vision
this is such a cope lol
no one actually measures vision like this, the only people that say this shit are morons that have never had an eye exam and think their vision is perfect
Dark mode is for OLED screens to save battery. Using dark mode on a LCD is moronic
It's nice on mobile, and absolutely shit on desktop.
I have visual snow and dark mode helps me because I don't see it as much on dark backgrounds
I read this then I saw some floaters.
frick you anon
EDIT: ok I turned down my brightness and it's fine.
Because light mode is conceptually moronic you dumb frick
Having meaningless background blasting your pixels at max strength while the useful text is black and nearly turned off save for the backlight is just fricking stupid
Only unironic dimwitted contrarians use light mode
>blasting your pixels at max strength
>She doesn't know how to adjust screen brightness much less understand the concept of screen brightness
I guess it is a cope mode for tech illiterate normoids
This thread just goes to show that IQfy is 95% phoneposters and pajeets larping as computer professionals.
What a sad state this board is in.
Because turning down screen brightness is too much effort for zoomtards.
hot take:
dark mode increases toxicity and depression. light mode looks like youre looking into the clouds or the sky. dark mode is just an endlessly dark void that some words come out. everything looks more negative. studies will prove this one day
if youre wondering why the internet seems a lot worse, less genuine, less friendly -- this is not the only aspect, but certainly a major contributing factor
it's 12am, working late, always work late, need something easy on the eyes, can't be arsed to flip it on and off
its dark at night, many do not want to smirk three minutes just to see what time it is in night
Because it didnt exist when we were kids
Light mode during the day
Dark mode once the sun goes down far enough that a light-mode screen is the brightest thing around
Switching back and forth is the best idea for most people and I’m annoyed that GNOME, of all things, has the easiest handiest switch for normies to flip back and forth while the other two OSs make you work at it a bit
>Why the frick is dark mode so popular?
Because they switched all the lights to that eye cancer-inducing pulsating LED crap so nobody turns them on anymore. You don't need dark mode if you have incandescent bulbs because you'll actually want to turn them on.
Just read the damn article your image was taken from OP
Dark mode is easier on the eyes
I prefer using the white mode because it's easier on the eyes, as I spend most of my time using a mobile or a desktop device during daytime! I also think it generaly looks better and has the pro of being more consistent and working on every app/site.
For me it's about display size. I have a large monitor for my desktop and use dark mode for most things on it. For my phone, light mode works better.
