Unapologetically calling Joseon dynasty Korea a Chinese vassal state makes it sound like Korean people were just sex slaves for Chinese people.
Like, bruh, there are more subtle and less disrespectful ways to communicate the fact that they were a non-sovereign state dependent on foreign powers.
I think Chinese vassalage was just ceremonial thing. Just admit that your king is under the Chinese emperor. Send officials to kowtow before the emperor and send gifts every few years
External threats/powers being able to impose themselves on someone at all is going to influence a person's mental state/decision making. Whats the point of putting effort into building a pretty city if the mongols/jurchens/japanese pirates will just come and burn it or the chinese emperor's envoys will get jealous? Japanese people were secure against foreign threats/influence, they didn't have to worry about chinese jealousy, foreign raids, they could build what they wanted without worrying about it being destroyed

You have tripgayged these forums with over ten thousand posts. Why do you do it? It's vain and gay to post here with a name. And why do you half ass it, using archaic orthography in your name but not in your posts?
I have half a mind to crack your tripcode just so you'll post anonymously.

This is a very remarkable claim that I hope has equally remarkable facts to substantiate it. It is dubious to claim korea was less advanced then its neighbors atleast up until 1853. Backwards according to our modern sensibilities; sure. The Japanese had rangaku to serve as a basis for their modernization so it is no surprise they had a willingness to adapt western technology and a foundation to build upon. That being said I do not believe that posting images of certain poorer areas are necessarily helpful in discussion. I can just as well post richer areas. Most people in agrarian civilizations lived in relative squalor. For a proper discussion; in what manner exactly were they inferior within the given timeframe? It would be great to get a proper IQfy discussion going for once. Picrel is Seoul.
Picrel is 1890s Japanese farmland. Japan was unusually and highly urbanized given its pre industrial status. That being said the majority of japanese still did not live in cities and still lived on farmland in buildings like picrel.
Picrel is an astronomical clock built during the Joseon era. Not as advanced as some japanese clocks but older. I personally love Tanaka Hisashiges myriad year clock.
Damn Chinkies wuz oppressin dem Joseon ppl

I thought Koreans were smart, why are they living in these African tier huts?

there never was any buddhism beyond india
They only became developed after Japanese colonialism
Natural korean disposition. Nothing in their history suggests otherwise.
JAPAN WAS A SOVEREIGN STATE; JOSEON WAS A MING, AND, LATER, QING VASSAL STATE.
