Why would people across the entire world, across all times and all cultures, invent the idea of God if he didn't exist? Seems kind of odd for them to all come up with the same idea.

>god real because others came up with an idea of it
>just don't pay attention to the fact they all came up with radically different versions, with even the people who believe in the same god not being able to agree on specifics
The point is that they all agree God exists even if they disagree about the specifics.
You could apply this to dragons, ghosts and bigfoot and even mermaids so it's not a very good argument. And actually, it defeats the point you are trying to make because they believed in GODS plural, not Yaweh.
>You could apply this to dragons, ghosts and bigfoot and even mermaids so it's not a very good argument
This proves my point even further. All that you listed are just demons.
>And actually, it defeats the point you are trying to make because they believed in GODS plural, not Yaweh.
Those gods are demons. My point remains.
Funny thing is, many of those religions consider your god to be the Demon. Weird, huh? And yes, they have holy books and priests that tell them the 'truth' as well, so claiming yours is the only one isnt to convincing. Religion is just like football, you each pick a favourite team then spend your life trying to convince everyone that your team you picked is the best (or in the case of monothiests, the only team).
Because those with power have always maintained their positions by attaining popular support. The most effective means of gaining popular support is by presenting yourself or your group as one that can protect the masses. This is without exception throughout the entirety of human history.
Just as maths and science sprouted across the globe independently of one another (or influenced by one another in some quarters), so too had political strategy. In lieu of nukes or means of depressing the economy on a wide scale, a class of politicians offered the masses protection from an unsavoury and undisprovable afterlife. All the masses had to do in return was whatever the frick they were told to do.
Post-classical ones even based much of their faith's principles on the four cardinal virtues; which in themselves, are very beneficial codes for the individual. So when the individual feels better about their shit, the religious body will take credit.
It's obviously much more complex than that, but the principle follows that as civilisations progress, the need to establish social tools are just as vital as the need for compasses and paper.
I like how this is the only smart post in this thread and the rest is just /misc/ tier shitflinging.
Didn't IQfy used to be good or was I just high all the time?
>Why would people across the entire world, across all times and all cultures, invent the idea of God if he didn't exist?
They didn't though.
We might call them all "Gods" nowadays, but they actually all have some big differences to the point that we cannot say they are the same "thing" :
>https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pantheons
This attempt to frame it as the "same" thing, just seems something done in retrospective because of biases and it's something that ignores the amount of Irreconcilable differences these deities or "Gods" all have.
>We might call them all "Gods" nowadays, but they actually all have some big differences to the point that we cannot say they are the same "thing"
>akshually they are their own thingy
have a nice day
The fact that we call them "Gods" in english, dosen't say anything about how these people that actually worshiped them, saw them.
As i said, this attempt to frame it as being the same "thing" seems like something done in retrospective because of biases and it's something that ignores the amount of Irreconcilable differences these deities or "Gods" all have.
Indeed. Most of the dumbfricks ITT are conflating monotheists with pantheists.

humans are actually not rational.
we are not the thinking ape, we are the PRAYING ape.
>woah guys, everyone throughout history believed in polytheism!
>this must mean that my monotheistic religion is true.
>btw polytheistic deities are demons who work for satan. Either that or they're not real.
