I wish I had the self-control to do this.
Write a cron job to shutdown during your usual sleep window iff you havent executed any commands in the last ~15-60 mins prior to job execution. Repeat execution every ~15-60 mins during your usual sleep window.
can you post the script please i'm too lazy to write it from scratch
just eat breakfast, clean your room and wash your pebis anon, we're all rooting for you
Don't forget to brush your teeth as well
bump
keep your fingernails long so you get better scrape the feces out of your ass
I do. It's easier than turning off the RGB lights in software.
>not staying up till 4 am watching anime and waking up at 3pm
do americans really
I do this, I still turn off my PC so I’m not blinded by my stupid RGB ram sticks (I only bought them because 25% off sale)
electric bill probably cost you more in the long run
People don't do it?
my pc is the only thing that will sleep with me
>he doesn't know about hot/cold cycle which damages components
>he doesn't know doing this once a day has zero impact
thats if you go from extreme hot to cold. the only way this can happen is if you plug out your pc mid game. if you use your pc like normal, the fans will equalize the temperature rather than do a sudden drop.
>the only way this can happen is if you plug out your pc mid game.
Not even that, in those cases the minimum the components can go is room ambient temperature. Damages occurs if the temperature suddenly drops from hot to cold very fast (less than ~2 seconds).
My computer is passively cooled 😀
fans turn off as soon as the computer turns off, moron
I had a computer from 2012 to 2019 that had no issues turning on and off every night. That's the longest I've gone with a computer without upgrades.
wait, is this a weird thing or something? I always shut down the computer at night
Based on all the crying over people's PCs being force to auto update randomly with Windows 10, yes.
Just last fricking week an auto update gave me black screen of death, had to reinstall windows and lost all my files. Yes Im going to cry about it.
>actually running windows 10 home
Not separating data and os
No snapshots
Tell me why exactly you would do this
LOL no it didn't. Been auto updating for years and never had an update do that.
>Based on all the crying over people's PCs being force to auto update randomly with Windows 10, yes.
nobody in this universe gives a single fricking shit about what computer illiterates have to say on any topic and they should kill themselves. if you can't prevent windows from updating whenever it likes, then you have failed.
I leave my server on. My gay ming pc, I turn off.
i could tell because you have fireworks going on in the window behind you
Is it weird to do that? I turn off my pc multiple times a day, I heard it's bad for the hard drive but I don't have one.
>putting your pc to bed so it can dream
Sleep tight snuggy pc
it takes like a few seconds for it to boot so why not
>be european
>100c/kWh electricity
>can't afford to puter even during the days
t-t-t-t-take that p-p-p-putin
>be european
>have solar panels
>run server 24/7
feels good to be white
Im sure the 2 sunny days you get a year juices everything up.
>live in a cold pitch dark shithole
not my problem
Solar panels work better on non-sunny days.
What do you mean by work better ?
Something about the efficiency going down with high temperature ?
They produce less energy on sunny days.
You got it backward, hitler.
>hitler
Why are you moronic? I guess cause you don't know how solar panels work.
>be norther european
>20 hours of darkness a day
>roof has 1 meter of snow
just convert the cold into power, guy.
Digging a hole and setting up some big ass low temperature difference stirling engine would probably be still far more expensive per watt than just buying it from the grid.
Denmark is in northern Europe and it's the most environmentally friendly country in the world.
Keep dreaming Ivan, I'm still paying 0.14/kWh and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future (at least until January).
You lost hard.
I'm finnish you moron
Then stop acting like a russBlack person.
Russians have cheap ass electricity tho.
It's us europeans that are shooting ourselves in the foot with the bullshit sanctions. You're just lucky to have a contract made earlier, mine expired and nobody is offering new ones. Only market electricity which already has peaked at 100c/kWh earlier this year.
>electricity is the only thing that matters in life
kys autist, most russians don't even have electric appliances to begin with, so much for that cheap electricity
T. Never even left his federal state
you've never left your country, burger
I know this site is stupid, but you're beyond brain dead
I'd take the expensive bills over getting conscripted 🙂
People who don't turn their computers off when they aren't usng them are moronic.
They probably also leave their ovens on 24/7 just in case they want to bake something.
Wrong. I keep my puter running at nights to seed'n'sneed.
>They probably also leave their ovens on 24/7 just in case they want to bake something.
Thanks for the idea, I'm going to save so much time
imagine not having average uptimes in the months.
pic related is my fricking laptop.
didn't ask
waste of energy unless you seed or self host on a fricking laptop
oh thats not even counting my desktop which is a 16-core 5GHz setup, or my file server
how much energy am i wasting exactly? pretty sure its so little that i give zero fricks
But your uptime!
Chron script to let me know I have 30 mins to wrap it up.
Chron script to go into sleep mode and disconnect Hair's.
Thanks mommy
>Be European
>Make it through the moron sanction winter
>Still overall be so antisemitic that antisemitism laws will never be a thing of the past
My thumbs in your eyes forever, Chaim.
You Chinese knockoff simulacrum of the West.
I, too, hate the mutts
my T440p has been running non stop since early april
People seriously not do this?
what can go wrong?
Yes, this is why there are so many moronic complaining their computers are slow, crash all the time, etc.
Computer literacy has really taken a deep fall in nwerer generations since the invention of smartphones.
People have been leaving their machine son 24/7 for decades. Way to out yourself, zoomzoom.
>leaving their machine son
robot children?
I just turn off my pc maybe 2 or 3 times per year
I haven't shut down my PC in over a decade.
last time I shutdown my PC for two weeks while I was gone I came back to a dead SSD.
i havnt shutdown my PC for any prolonged period in over 10 years
I keep sneeding
thank you, sir
Giving that I am living in a hot ass dorm room I turn my Computer off any time I am not using it. Running a Space heater when the room is already 90+ degrees is a dimwit move.
Everyone should do this, reduce power consumption whenever possible for the environment especially since we're in a climate crisis
excellent bait, guaranteed replies
how about reducing the russoid's population with a couple nuclear warheads instead
we can take their oil and gas as well
Anon if you want to destroy half of humanity you have to target SEA…
gonna start mining overnight because of this comment i dont even care that it's not profitable anymore
This but unironically (but it barely helps, corporations have to get their shit together for real, lasting climate help)
I had to turn my PC off when they shut down our power to install the new solar array
>shut down pc
>turn off power plug
>somehow still at 10+ days in W10
I don't get it
(I know a restart reset it)
that's the fastboot thingy, something in-between suspend/hibernate and a full shutdown
I was very upset about losing the 400 days uptime when it either had a crash or somehow forced an update in the night, it would be 500 now
laptop quadcore?
You're facing a 5000 euro gas bill this winter.
I do it because of the sound/lights
I can't do that because my autism makes me think the fans are gonna give out and stop thus frying my system alive. Never happened before, never had a fan fail on me, but still.
True regard, moron. If a fan gives out and the system heats up too much, it will just shut itself down.
I'm confused here.. is turning off pc at night not the norm ??
My computer has stayed on for the past 6 years, never had an issue. I like being able to hop on instantly with everything running how I left it. It's also better for your parts supposedly.
I use my laptop as my primary computer and always turn it off because I am scared of ruining the battery by leaving it plugged in all the time. Is this true or a meme?
It's true
Remove the battery and keep it plugged when you game on it
i do. is it bad?
Is there a problem with doing this? I've done this my entire life, shutting down when sleeping and starting fresh when waking up. Even when I had an abysmal computer that took forever to boot I still would. I have even more reason to now that I'm using zram for /tmp and /var/tmp so it gets cleared every day
In theory power cycling hardware is more demanding for it due to greater temperature fluctuations
In practice you will have replaced parts before they break due to this, so doesn't matter
I've always done this, except when torrenting huge files
I leave my desktop computer on all the time, unless I know I won't be using it for a while, then I turn it off and leave it off for several months/until I feel like using it again. I don't know if that's the reason my 10 year old hard drive is still going strong, but seeing as my electricity is dirt cheap and my power draw low I don't really care
I only do it because I want my room as cool as possible at night and I figure the the PC would probably raise the room temp like a tenth of a degree.
i do that. is it bad?
>not sleeping with your PC instead of shutting it down like some bastard
tell me you're a freetard without telling me you're a freetard
I've started using hibernation more and more
unless it's a laptop you are wasting your time.
i dont
I need it on for the fan noise so I can sleep
>Fans make noise
Ngmi
Get the Sleep Pillow app.
just get an air purifier anon
the buzzing of high voltage stops me from reaching equilibrium
I can't hibernate my computer because When I startup again it freezes on the Bios logo and restarts
garbage shit
My pc wakes itself back up when I put it to sleep sometimes so I just turn it off.
sleep mode has treated me very well, I only turn my PC off when I know I'm no going to use it for a couple days or more.
I turn off all my devices when sleeping, even my phone and wifi router. I'm schizo about electromagnetic pollution and minimize it if i can.
bear with me for a second, you people mean turn off as in power off so there is no power going to the computer?
because I suspend it every night and restart occasionally
I did that, but the PC felt really sluggish, so I stopped
for me, it is the sleep mode
I never turn mine off unless I know I won't be back for at least 24 hours
Bed/Other: Sleep mode
Leaving the house: Shutdown
Also automatic sleep mode after 2 hours of inactivity.
My PC deserves a little rest every day 🙂
how much does the pc pull when it's off?
it's still metal and connected to an outlet, isn't it?
I bought my current PC when I was a moronic gaymur teenager, and it has motherboard RGB that doesnt turn off even if the computer is off.
So I unplug the entire thing at night or else the RGB shit keeps me from sleeping
I actually do turn it off. I don't use it overnight.
My PC is broken because when I send it to sleep it won't wake unless I turn it off fully and then turn it on again.
What about gaming laptops?
Unless I intend to play a game that requires heavy hardware I shuffle my usage to my 9 year laptop that is kept in sleep for web browsing and Steam Deck for games.
My PC stays off unless I need it.
I give you 300 bucks if I may eat your firstborn
Is this supposed to be impressive? I can't sleep at night knowing any of my hardware is running, I even turn off my phone and wake up without an alarm.
That's called mental illness
tell me that you are poor and unemployed without telling me
what? I thought this was normal, everyone I know does this
Idk why I wouldn't do that. I shut it down when I'm not using it
i used to do this, nowadays i use sleep mode instead so i dont have to wait through the boot up in the morning
Used to turn it off whenever going out or at night when asleep, but lately been turning off then switching off power supply, all the way to power socket.
I had LEDs I hate LEDS I hate LEDS
Here's mine, nothing impressive, about a week ago I had an outage so.
Remember what they took from you.
I use sleep mode. I like how I can wake it up pressing anything on my keyboard and be right back where I left my pc.
my pc boots up in 6 seconds from hibernate or from off so it matters not. also leaving it to suck in more dust means more cleaning. i h8 cleaning.
my macbook that i had sitting on the floor using it as a "tower" was never turned off or unplugged (except for when a fuse blew in the house) once from 2015 till last month when it died. i never cleaned it or the vents or anything i just turned the monitor off when i was done using it.
simple as
For 5 years I left it on 24/7
Now for 3 years I turn it off as I have become sweaty and disable all power savings, C-States etc.
I do now, for the last two years though I was making anywhere from $.25 up to $2 with it every time I slept. Why wouldn't I get paid to sleep?
