quality thread, thank you OP
Thanks! It's not easy but rat superiority must be maintained.
implying that boring is not a mark of quality
>xfeces
Post your DE right now!

Gorgeous tail, ma'am.
Based. I love rats.

because it just works?
cinnamon and xfce are in the same tier
Sticking with arch i3 x11 nvidia

antisemitic DE
I'm a israelite and that rat makes me feel insecure because I just loaned 10,000 to a man at 50% interest every 5 days. He called me a "rat" to his friends (he thought I couldn't hear him). Anyways, I order xfce to be shut down immediately.
LXDE

Pleasantly surprised to see these mentioned.

Then IQfy would turn to shit

It has active maintainers and does what I need.
abondonware... wtf is wrong with you?
obondonworo
>>MATE
>Abandonware
MATE is more developed than xfeces.
Caja is better than Thunar and supports more features. MATE already has wayland support while xfeces is just starting to look into it.
Caja more like... Caca!
jajajaja, me reí.
>Caja
just use pcmanfm or mc
No.

gnome is unironically the best option. that said, gnome is fricking garbage. for example, gdm ignores user preferences as to primary monitor which is unacceptable e.g. for laptop users that dock with usb-c and expect their device to output everything to the external display instead of just the user session.
2024 and linux still isn't ready for the desktop.
>gdm ignores user preferences as to primary monitor
is there ANY linux display manager that is capable of this automatically?
startx
> ignores user preferences as to primary monitor which is unacceptable e.g. for laptop users...
It works on my laptop (Deb 11 stable, MATE. Lenovo G50-80 Touch).
>HDMI connected
i like my linux machine powered by KDE Plasma 6.0.4
I use xfce but jesus christ STFU cringehomosexual.
all except gnome are good
i do like xfce and always tend to go back
lxqt is better
>xfeces
Stuck on GTK3 forever, can't even support high resolution monitors lol

even better than GUHNOME.

If you don't have any proper criticism that means it's good
I plugged a second monitor and xfce4 immediately became feature incomplete with how awful the dual monitor handling is.
It makes this big rectangular Screen and it distorts how my wacom tablet works, I drew a square and it comes out rectangular and fricked.
Help
I've looking at xrandr shit on google for hours and I can't find out how I can make a second Screen so I can put one monitor on the first and the other on the second, so I dont have fricked up warping from having a huge single screen
can i not use xrandr for this and am i forced to use xorg.conf?
>3286x1080
why the moronic resolution
are you trying to run any display at something other than its native resolution?
That is how xfce4 handles multihead, inspired by the arandr program.
It makes a big virtual SCREEN and then puts the two monitors side by side.
I really don't like that it does that, and I been trying to figure out how I can make a custom script with xrandr but I can't seem to figure out how to create a second SCREEN.
At least figured out how I can deal with the tablet distortion with xsetwacom command
>
They do this so your window can move over to the second monitor (because it's all in a single virtual screen)
With separate screen only the mouse can go through
We keep telling you morons, but never listen. Your only solution is using a DE that supports Wayland, no way around it
Remap your tablet to the screen you want to draw on. If youre using an xsetwacom GUI, just set it to stay on one screen. if youre doing it through the terminal, find the name of the monitor you want to set it to and write it in your tablet rule script.
I might be missing the mark completely here, but you could try swapping xfwm4 to Mutter, it only takes a minute and it's not permanent.
https://davquar.it/post/linux/xfwm4-to-mutter/
>kde
It crashes all the fricking time but I like its looks.
>no snapping to edges of screen
>garbage touchpad options
>>no snapping to edges of screen
There is moron
touchpad options
Use case? Use your keyboard like a normal person
It's a resource hog... Pretty based if you don't mind that thoughbeiteitherwise...
>snapping
It's there, but the implementation is a bit shitty. You can improve it by swapping xfwm with mutter, as per the post above
>really fast because few components
>can't handle theming properly
>can't handle scaling properly
>end up looking like a ducttaped windows 95
>no modern features build in
>if you want to make it usable, need to configure it like a tiling wm
????? Unless you are running on hardware from 2003 I don't get why you would waste your time on this
XFCE is the Official Gaming DE
>no wayland
>gaming
I tried installing it on my Chromebook with crouton but I just couldn't get it to work.
I'm going to try again later, but now I'm a bit demotivated with how much work I did without getting it to work.
I'm genuinely surprised it's so hard to install linux on chromebooks.
i generally install a full DE and then install i3 and log into that so i dont have to frick around installing basic utilities. how are the xfce programs it ships with?
the White Man's DE
you know it's good because it doesn't have a code of conduct
>posts a picture with a white man depicting hyprland and a brown man depicting xfce
let's be honest here, the one on the left doesn't really qualify as a man anymore
funny how if you call a real man a woman he'll get angry but most "men" these days WANT to be called a woman. So if you want to offend him, you have to call him a man. Wtf time period was I born into.
I didn't call him a woman either, come on anon. I probably should say "it" rather than "him" tbdesu
Being "boring" sounds like a good thing for a DE
unfortunately on arch, there's no graphical utility to manage user accounts
but the customization.... the unbridled terminal window.....
Xfce looks like piss these days, they need to go back to GTK 2.
