gnome is unironically the best option. that said, gnome is fricking garbage. for example, gdm ignores user preferences as to primary monitor which is unacceptable e.g. for laptop users that dock with usb-c and expect their device to output everything to the external display instead of just the user session.

2024 and linux still isn't ready for the desktop.

I plugged a second monitor and xfce4 immediately became feature incomplete with how awful the dual monitor handling is.

It makes this big rectangular Screen and it distorts how my wacom tablet works, I drew a square and it comes out rectangular and fricked.

    Help

I've looking at xrandr shit on google for hours and I can't find out how I can make a second Screen so I can put one monitor on the first and the other on the second, so I dont have fricked up warping from having a huge single screen

can i not use xrandr for this and am i forced to use xorg.conf?

      >3286x1080
      why the moronic resolution

are you trying to run any display at something other than its native resolution?

That is how xfce4 handles multihead, inspired by the arandr program.
It makes a big virtual SCREEN and then puts the two monitors side by side.
I really don't like that it does that, and I been trying to figure out how I can make a custom script with xrandr but I can't seem to figure out how to create a second SCREEN.

At least figured out how I can deal with the tablet distortion with xsetwacom command

They do this so your window can move over to the second monitor (because it's all in a single virtual screen)

With separate screen only the mouse can go through

We keep telling you morons, but never listen. Your only solution is using a DE that supports Wayland, no way around it

      Anonymous

Remap your tablet to the screen you want to draw on. If youre using an xsetwacom GUI, just set it to stay on one screen. if youre doing it through the terminal, find the name of the monitor you want to set it to and write it in your tablet rule script.

I might be missing the mark completely here, but you could try swapping xfwm4 to Mutter, it only takes a minute and it's not permanent.

I tried installing it on my Chromebook with crouton but I just couldn't get it to work.
I'm going to try again later, but now I'm a bit demotivated with how much work I did without getting it to work.
