The mainstream branch of the JCP were both anti-Mao and Anti-USSR. After WW2 most ultra-nationalists simply joined the communists because 1. They were legal. 2. They were literally the only party against being a US protectorate.
So they would've ostracized NATO, including the country pumping tons of money into their economy, but also China and the Soviets, the only powers who could reasonably stop the expansion of the US hegemony.
At best they would've ended up as a slightly more successful North Korea, alienated by both ideology and autistic isolationism

Japan is a country with no natural resources and a lot of large, potentially unfriendly countries near it, so it benefits from having a large, open, free-trade network and allies maintaining the current balance of power in the western pacific. America is also a large, modern capitalist economy and wants to contain Russia/China, so Japan is a natural ally to them.
The only reason there was ever a serious rift between Japan and the west is because of idpol morons taking over in the 1930s and fricking everything up. The vast, vast majority of Japanese never wanted those idiots to be in charge of the country again, because they took it from being successful and powerful to being a bombed out ruin occupied by foreign powers.
