i did some programming in school, didn't really look that easy (i mean, it wasn't hard either but I just did some basic calculations), especially considering the fact you have to adapt to constantly evolving technologies and I'm not really a computers guy anyway
It's actually very hard for a foreigner to get a coding job in Japan without being able to speak Japanese. Even though the syntax of most programming languages is in English, the office speak there still happens in Japanese. They have their own way to approach code and so on.
Back in the day I thought this would be a cool idea, then I looked up information and it turns out getting a coding job in most countries is much easier than it is in Japan. That market is rather closed off and you really need to get your foot in the door.

Don't do it. The market is terrible right now. There's huge numbers of devs being fired, companies are cutting costs and more and more devs are looking for jobs. Getting a junior position is almost impossible. The market has changed IMMENSELY in the last 5 years. I still see bootcamps doing well and selling promises of easy employment and huge demand. It's not there anymore. 4-5 years ago it was easy to get a coding job. Now it's actually incredibly hard. Most other IT fields are a lot easier. Even a good number of mid-tier developers are finding it quite hard to get a job and it's not getting easier. Not only because of the market, but now AI is capable of doing some tasks that were previously relegated to juniors.
Can you beat ChatGPT?
Well, ChatGPT won't replace devs. Will just make it harder for junior ones to get their first job. But chatgpt makes a frickton of errors and can't reason for shit.

He's talking out of his ass. I have friends who studied IT here, not even programming but computer engineering or informatics, and they all still work as code monkeys and make more than doctors. Haven't heard anyone complain about layoffs either. This AI-programming thing is way overblown.
