That's not what a definition is. You described a concept map or association chart.

they are not synonyms. definition refers to the sentence which expresses the meaning, not the meaning itself. If you can't even make this distinction you really shouldn't be here shooting your mouth off.

A definition tries to visualize something as accurate as possible in your brain, while using a language, which in itself is always flawed and never 100 % accurate.
A definition is therefore like drawing circles and you hope that the area which all circles have in common is as small as possible, but it will never be a point.

that's where you went wrong though. a definiton doesn't involve placing what is defined in a larger nomological network. if you talk about the relation to squares when defining a circle you're doing more than just defining a circle.

a definion is not a learning aid. if you want to aid understanding you're better off giving examples, drawing pictures or whatever but that's not what a definion as commonly understood is. for instance, this is the definition of a circle: figure whose boundary (the circumference) consists of points equidistant from a fixed point (the centre). not very vivid. if you want to help someone understand what it is you just draw a circle

still not the point. a definiton has to be precise, non-redundant. whether it's helpful in making a word understood by laypeople is simply not a concern. if it's the case it's incidental to a definion, not essential.

A definition is like an operation of addition where the word defined always = one. For instance (the definition of) biped = a 2-leggèd animal. Of course you asked for a definition of definition (not an analogy) but I hope this suffices.

In defining definition you're already assuming definition is defined. So definition is what is assumed in all the possible definitions. In the other words take the intersection of things assumed in all the definitions.

comes from a latin word meaning "to make thin" or "to make fine", so the idea of defining a thing means to delineate precisely what that thing is - angloids are however naturally nominalistic since they are possessed by demons so they put too much focus on it: they like to discuss words and make use of elaborate wordplay. Most people don't need definitions if you remind them you are talking about things not words.

      Anonymous

You're a fricking idiot. Definire does not mean "to make thin" or "to make fine" in Latin. It means "to set a boundary or limit" or "to terminate." God I hate morons like you who couldn't read the opening sentence of Agricola pretending to understand the definition of a word based on your own made up etymology.

An established logical context. Start with identity, add axioms, viola! you have a context you can build on.
Same in language, programming, logic and math.

      Anonymous

Programming gives some insights into "identity". It becomes remarkably useful to start with an identity with no specific associated attributes. That's basically how neural networks build up. It's a reminder that everything is contextual, if you drill down to the smallest atoms of identity they have no real attributes except in terms of the realness of logic, they just serve as anchors for the wider context to have some place.
