It's a drive pool with file duplication, if a drive dies in the pool there's another copy of the files it had on another drive
Anything truly important, like home videos and documents are all backed up online anyway
If one of you is that guy, how many drives and what size? Is it RAID or some other magic?

You can use RAID, but I'm a lazy Windows kiddie and use a non-free paid software called Drivepool, it's like $30
I prefer it over RAID since I can add and remove different size drives whenever I want and not lose access to my files
My media is all served through Plex and Jellyfin, and client devices are just things like smart TVs, streaming boxes, computers, tablets, and phones

how does it compare to the built in windows storage spaces?

Storage Spaces performance is so fricking dogshit that it's not even worth mentioning. I tried the same setup in it and couldn't crack 40MB/s, with Drivepool I can max out a drive easily and it benefits from striping as well
>Imagine the butthurt when that drive breaks
I hope you have a backup anon

Just build a computer, install the OS on an SSD, fill it with HDDs, and install Drivepool. I recommend using a case like a DS380B that can hold a lot of drives
In Drivepool you just add the HDDs to the drive and turn on file duplication, literally that's it. You can always add more HDDs later, as well as remove them
Nothing special needs to be done with the HDDs, they just need to be formatted normally like you would with any other drive. Nice thing about this is that you can take the individual drives out and still access the files normally on any other computer
>home videos (..) are all backed up online
Hope you don't have kids. The EU is apparently TOTALLY fine with a 10% margin of error on falsely flagging the photographs of your kids as child porn and won't require online service providers to do manual double checks - just ship it alll off to the authorities and they'll sort out the oopsies; a few years after they've come to bust your door down and turn you into a paria, of course. Paperwork takes time; don'tcha know.

lol its too niche for people to know
noone spends their time messing around with hard drives and distro hopping, they actually have jobs and real hobbies loser
I bought Syphon Filter 6 gorillion years ago, to be used on my PS3 and later my PS Vita
A few months ago, Snoy killed the ability to download purchased games on the PS3 and Vita, and I thought I had lost Syphon Filter forever. But what do you know, the new PS1 ports on PS4 and PS5 had Syphon Filter among them and it appears as "purchased" on my PS5 library even though I didn't actually buy it. I did not expect this non-israeli tactic from Snoy. Ofc I'm prolly not getting all PS1 games I got for PS3 and Vita, but prolly all the ones that get a new version.
>Buying from Sony's gaming division
Tell me how you're a cuck without explicitly saying dumb dumb Black person cum right before eating it out your fat hog wife OP
I remember Amazon did some shit with Kindle, pretty sure Microsoft did it at least once. Walmart shut down their mp3s, there were digital movies I think Disney? That got shut down
This happens over and over and has been for over 10 years at this pont
they could, but they're not gonna. not as long as gabe is bossman, at least. ol gaben may be many things, but he has proved himself to be very consistent when it comes to people's games. as far as i know, he's never directly removed games from people's accounts, so i see no reason to think he will do it in the future.
>Valve could literally [..]
Not in the EU they couldn't. The EU has laws which make most of that muck non-binding and unenforceable. If they tried, it would in fact be a case of them being liable for failure to supply and they could look forward to termination of contract and issuing of a refund.
The EU requires that consumer contracts for distance sale of goods; services; digital content; or digital services; very clearly have the trader inform consumers up front (and NOT through small-print or general terms and conditions) when a contract of otherwise indeterminate time would expire. This is essential precontractual information that CANNOT be altered after the fact without mutual approval.
Moreover, burden of proof is on the trader that they actually informed the consumer properly, which according to legislation requires that they present this information to the consumer on a durable medium. Where durable means a medium under the consumer's control; or at the very least a medium NOT under the trader's control. I.e. a link to the trader's website is not sufficient. A hard-copy in e-mail would suffice; and the trader would need tangible proof they actually sent it AND the consumer received it.
The fun thing is Sony is trying to pull this stunt with media that was iirc predominantly sold in GERMANY. If they plan to try and weasel out of issuing refunds, then best go grab the popcorn - 'cuz this is going to be a fun one.
The publisher can't come into your house to take your games when their licenses to the music in the game expire.
You can make backups, you can share them with friends, gift them or sell them.
At least on steam when licenses expire and a game is pulled from the store, people who own the game can still download and play it as much as they want, it's just that new people can't buy the game anymore
>never been into movies >recently started to get into them >set up Plex on my nas >start looking for how to best get content to put on it, since I've never been into movies I don't have a physical collection to rip >start looking for places to purchase movies digitally >It's just straight up not a thing
And now I've been turned off of movies in general. Even on the plex forums every says to just pirate. Why the frick can you not just purchase movies digitally and keep them? You either have to stream, or some services let you download a shit 1080p version riddled with DRM that you have to use through their specific service anyway.
>Why the frick can you not just purchase movies digitally and keep them?
Because the media industry is israelited, you fricking idiot.
You do not pirate because you are poor, you pirate because you are not an idiot.
you can buy (rent) movies on a playstation?
Yes, you will pay more to "own" something you'll watch only once and forget about.
>pay
oh yeah, my original laser discs and VHS that I bought and own are totally useful now. I'm so fricking happy.
frick off, homosexual
they still work, don't they?
in good working order right, anon
When am I getting happy, tho?
>he doesn't save his own media

Just make a file server and use RAID-Z.

I don't see a problem as I'm sure most of these purchases have already returned their money investment as entertainment value.

Kindle had book removed, even from device. Ironically it was 1984.
The Steam EULA says that Steam purchases are just rented licenses. Valve could literally take all the games you bought away if they wanted.
Would not be very cash money of them

You EU cucks are always so funny for thinking that anybody outside of the EU give a frick about your laws.
So are the plastic discs, dumbass. You don't own the rights to show Sharon Stone's snatch anywhere you want because you paid thirty bucks

God I fricking hate society

You do not pirate because you are poor, you pirate because you are not an idiot.
israelites don't want to own anything, that's why it's so hard to have a legal collection on your hard drive. Just pirate.
Just pirate and stop wanting to be a b***h. Your ideals get you nothing. Piracy gets be soft and entertainment.
The last soft I bought was PartitionMagic 4.0 when it was new. Grow up. Take what thou wilt.
You will if you support GPL licensed software and media
