OpenSUSE is doing something interesting.
Apparently you cant brake this Distro. Is this the beginning of Linux Desktop?!

I’d use it if it didn’t use systemd. Is there an openrc flavor?

im relatively new to loonix. i've been on and off with it for last 4-5 years but few months ago i completely ditched win11 etc etc etc.
What is the problem with this systemd and whats so appealing with this openrc?!

          >What is the problem with this systemd
It's the solution to a problem few people were having.
It's a massive code base running as PID=1. This is a huge security problem.
It borged a bunch of other, important projects and messed with their code so much it's hard to use those projects without systemd.
It does its job in a non-deterministic, action at a distance way. This makes it the enemy of sysadmins - unpredictable
The developers aren't very good. The project has a history of stupid decisions.

          >and whats so appealing with this openrc?!
          It's not systemd.

asking for a systemd-less version is ridiculous; they are fully redhat globohomosexual and pretty much the most bloated distribution out there

bruh they all have same performance and openrc even fails to run some programs like chromium.
SystemD has more damons to run and better dodumentations.
        Hah laughable

the only difference is that openrc is written in C.

From what I've heard, OpenSUSE splits packages into sub-packages. So the same 1 package in Arch would be 3 sub-packages or more on OpenSUSE for example.

steamdeck is one of the most popular immutable oss. how is it different than that
        >you cant do anything
correct. at least without installing a certain package

Android, iOS, MacOS, ChromeOS are all immutable as well. With immutable Linux you can still install packages through layering but mostly you wanna go sandbox first(flatpak/snap) -> containers(toolbox/distrobox) and at last OStree or any equivalent to install packages through layering. So you can do anything you can with a regular Linux distro but without shitting up the root filesystem.

On my laptop running Silverblue I've only had to layer one package to get h264 codecs, the rest is through flatpak or through toolbox.

I don't think stability is what is keeping people away from Linux. Also, why do you want normies to use it? The moment devs start seeing that they can take advantage of normies and get money, they'll convert Linux into Windows 2, is that what you want?

a cooler feature would be the ability to snapshot your current os state and run it in a VM. Why do they keep reinventing the wheel with stuff we don't need?

OpenSuse? Why would anyone want to use a dying distro instead of using a more modern and innovative distro like PopOS? PopOS is the future once COSMIC is complete.

Has it come out of beta yet? I still don't feel like inmutable distros are ready. Layering is cumberstone for some things and adds a sizeable amount of storage bloat. Look at Bluefin and the way they hedgepodge Brew i.e.
