I use it infinitely more than any of my other vr headsets. I use it more than my phone now. It’s a better device than reviewers even understand. I’ve been into vr since the rift s and this thing is a whole new ballgame

The design philosophy and the philosophy of use are just so much more cohesive than all the jank that current vr headsets are. There was a vision they executed on here rather than an amalgamation of features. I bought it fully expecting to return it, and it just blew me away. I don’t even have a Mac and am no fanboy. But I just immediately preferred this to being on my pc or tv or phone. It’s a superior device. It’s like a portable multi monitor setup. The ergonomics of having a battle station where ever you are can’t be overstated. The comfort to me is along the lines of wearing over ear headphones. And that’s all before even mentioning the displays which are just again on another level. These are gonna be a thing, and I will always own the newest one so long as they keep making them. 10/10

VR will continue to be a meme until it's full AR capable and wearing them is like wearing normal glasses. And the cost is equal or less than a cell phone. We're 20 years away minimum.

          Anonymous

normal glasses don't need light blocking, it'll always have a cumbersome interface to block out light
the other route is some kind of projection, which we're even further away from

VR's 3rd gen (this current stuff) fails because:

    - No software for it
    - It is bulky
    - The resolution/refresh rate are too low*
    - It is wired

*I am not 100% sure, but IIRC, science says if it is below 8K@240Hz per eye, then it is too low.

mark my words, apple won't ever make something great again. it's going to be failed project after failed project after failed project.

I doubt valve can get the passthrough right. It’ll probably be a wireless high res microoled pancake with quest 3 like passthrough, which while great still wouldn’t touch vision OS or the Vision Pro. Also it will probably need controllers all the time, which does create a lot of friction getting in and out of vr.

if you dont have controllers you run into all sorts of problems my man. AVP already proved that fact

I disagree. I like not having controllers for most of my daily use. The hand tracking is very reliable.

It simply doesnt work reliably as proved by many many reviews and you entirely cant fap or game natively with motion controls

it focuses on marketing specs, instead of necessary specs.

user experience would focus on the necessary specs. not 'moar pixels!!!'.

if you're going to choose non see-through vr setup, used for extended periods, the first think you need to do is make sure it is comfortable.
you make sure it has 0 pmw dimming, so no flickering.
you make sure it has near 0 latency.

pixelamount and color accuracy can suck a dick.

          Anonymous

Nah I don’t think isn’t spec overload. I think the avp is actually the minimum viable product. I think this is the minimum resolution you can make a headset if you want to read small text, and watch 4k3d movies. As for comfort, it’s actually very good for me personally.

I would have recommended the HP Reverb G2 V2 as it has very good resolution, best-in-class earphones and you can get it for as low as $200-300 on a sale. The best headset for 2160p VR cooms IMO. There are two major caveats though:
-WMR is getting deprecated in 2026. I believe you can still download a standalone version, but that's up in the air at the moment.
-The cable WILL break on you within 12 months if you aren't extremely careful. The cable is also proprietary so replacements cost an arm and a leg.
Unless there's a workaround to WMR being deprecated I can't really recommend it anymore, which is a real pity.

iphone came out in 2007, so probably stock market drops 40 percent next year. Followed by about 3-4 years of these things picking up and through financial voodoo becoming cheaper. I'd probably buy apple stock around 2026 and sit on it until 2038 when apple really starts to go bankrupt when they run out of patents.

Every company in the XR space is terrified of creating the killer app for the platform, but in an unpolished state, only for a rival to roll up with a clone with better UX or functionality. So they've all done what they can to slow-walk the space's development while they get everything absolutely perfect. In Apple's case with the Alien Vs Predator, there is zero chance that they don't know that the use case that will kickstart the 3rd wave personal computing revolution is some sort of persistent and location-aware spatial app that's more like a virtual smarthome appliance (or group of them), and not an iPad app thay behaves like those janky AR NFL graphics. But they won't release it until Meta does theirs, SPECIFICALLY so that they can undercut it.
