kill it with fire
Creepy as frick. Why was this made? Just because you can doesn't mean that you should. We have strayed from the truth.
Look if they look to human people will just accept them and god knows they are terrible at politics, internet hate machine indeed
This was my thought exactly.
>We made this thing that kills indiscriminately with no control and is powered by the blood of the things it devours! It can also just be used to make more of itself endlessly to replace all workers, possibly even leaders and ceos. Maybe we can make it emulate real people, only it's a roomba going through the motions! The possibilities of removing humans from humanity are endless!
>Okay why though.
Maybe the greeks had it right and some people should just be dashed against the rocks
You are a automaton powered by neurotransmitters.
No I'm not. Machinery wouldn't remove its computing core from the mix "for fun." You solidify oils together and bind them with hammered metal deposits turned into tubes so they can make a mockery of that which already existed. It's a pointless process of no technological merit. Tech is a tool. If you have a nice day to make the tool, you are the tool.
>If you have a nice day to make the tool, you are the tool.
If you have a nice day to achieve your goals, you are a tool to your whims. If you have a nice day "for fun" you are a tool to your emotional responses. If you have a nice day just to see what happens afterward you are a tool to your curiosity. Everything is a tool to something, if you apply that same logic to the rest of your actions instead of localizing it to your vendetta. Everything has an end, and pretending that just because it isn't overtly logically evident or is incredibly short term dismisses that line of reasoning is wrong. You can break everything down to ones and zeroes, no matter how little you people think that is feasible. Your brain is no less of a computer reacting to stimuli then your smartphone powered by algorithms and reward systems.
A mockery implies active malice. This is not the case. It is not mocking any specifics of the human form. You are actively trying to make yourself frustrated over it to justify your flagrant distrust.
If technology is a tool designed to accomplish a task, you are a tool designed to accomplish the task of 'being human' and participating in the community around you. If you are a tool, a 'mockery' of yourself is indeed a tool as well. That is how you are seen in the machine of society, and none of your poetic spiritualism changes that. You could say society is wrong. I will not stop you or disagree. I am just saying it doesn't matter, and no one will care given enough time.
All things must die.
Yes you are.
You're an illiterate shitskin
go back
I've been here since 2011, election tourist shitskin
go back even further
and how exactly do these "neurotransmitters" give rise to phenomenal experience?

i'm pretty sure the "unnatural" movements are done to deliberately demonstrate how it can do things a human can't, or that a humanoid robot need not be limited by what human joints can do
>or that a humanoid robot need not be limited by what human joints can do
This, OG Atlas humanoid joint is fricking moronic.
They are making bipedal robot with bolts and nuts, not artificial muscle.
I already said that the project was fricking moronic for years and in the end they abandon it.
What a fricking waste of time and money.
damn, youre so smart. go start your own company and beat their asses already
Atlas has always been a platform for developing the real breakthrough tech, which is movement that matches/exceeds the performance of a human in any environment. It was a test rig for the software.
Also, Atlas used hydraulics which is pretty much artificial muscle. They needed those hydraulic actuators because they needed higher torque to eliminate as many variables as possible while developing the movement/computer vision software. One tradeoff of hydraulic actuators is that you can't have continuous rotation.
All of their high-level decisions make perfect sense and they've all been scrutinized over by teams of engineers. [ad-hominem here].
frick off homosexual
every generation has a low IQ population. you're it, anon.
Your kind said the same thing about penicillin and the wheel anon.
Because your sensibilities of articulation are dumb.
We are not the optimal example and there's no reason they should limit a robot to only articulate in a way humans can.
They're going to kill you with it.
you know how in old folktales the demons move their heads and joints in unnatural ways
>nooo this is not like le humans therefore it must be le creepy

Huh, is that the assaultron laser?
>heard you talkin' shit
Where the pussy?
when can i frick it
the way it pivots it's legs on universal joints one at a time to "turn around" while also taking steps is so sick
This thing looks amazing, can't wait to see it actually use its hands though. I can see that it is clenching those three figures right now and I wanna see them in use.
on a related note, it's crazy how our human hands' dexterity depends on a biological algorithm trained over tens of millions of years of evolutional branch-grabbing built not just to grab pretty much anything, but be able to support our entire weight. replicating such resulting complexity imo is robotics' biggest challenge.
those actuators are leftover from the previous Atlas. You can see vids of it using them
?t=462
is the new robot same height as atlas was?
Those are some nice grippers, thanks for showing me this information
It's dexterity is impressive, but how durable is the thing? As we saw with the previous atlas its going to have to take quite a few hard knocks and it looks like it already did on it's screen if those smudges are anything to go by.
>but how durable is the thing?
It looks like it doesn't use hydraulics unlike the first Atlas, so it probably won't be squirting from its knees due a misstep.
No one cares about this until they put a pussy and butthole on it you can frick
They purposely made it act like a relentless murderbot?
All that's missing is weapons that materialize as it struts off to do more killing.
>They purposely made it act like a relentless murderbot?
It was to demonstrate the range of motion it has, and how it goes beyond what normal humans can do.
all cool but unless we invent a new way of storing electricity this thing lasts 5 minutes tops
Solid state batteries are on the horizon but truthfully I think it comes down to how efficiently they make make it move.
Not sure about Atlas, but other similar robots last 2 hours and charge in 1.
It should be better than the old one, right? I thought electric actuators are more energy efficient than hydraulic actuators.
Clone robotics is making a humanoid robot soon. I bet that thing will be creepy as hell and use their artificial muscles.
>She will last 5 minutes tops
Yea, same. That should be all I need each time.
A lot can happen in the span of 5 minutes
Underrated effort post
Why store electricity at all?
What if it continuously receives electricity through the environment via microwaves/ solar/etc?
>this thing lasts 5 minutes tops
so will I
battery "breakthroughs" have been reported every other week the past decade. None of them actually comes to fruition.
>V0
The way it turns its legs at the hip joint 180 degrees so quickly and subtly really fricks with me.
Now this is a fricking robot that actually looks useful
This is good. Soon humans will be completely replaced. The jeets will be removed by their AI-Robot grift product in time.
Give it twenty years and we can put our brain into a robot body, I am glad we are focusing on humanoid robots since that means the body I get in the future will be pretty great since a lot of effort has gone into specifically the humanoid form factor.

Serious question, could adding bags of fluid/gel be somehow justified as technical improvement to the bot? Like maybe having it be cooling agent or some liquid batteries. Is any of this possible?
Sounds dangerous to have battery fluid contained in soft squishy bags like that. Basically begging for a battery fore
Yes. Sweat. Cooling system.
did you inpaint the face too? it looks cute

Now we just need to see how well it could breakdance
Still no human hands, looks like fricking toy.
Did they have to make it act like a murderbot? I can just see the Pentagon salivating over this already.
Pentagon has always been their primary purchaser and funder.
They absolutely know exactly what they're doing.
Who do you think is funding them to begin with?
You'll probably see these being used by the military and law enforcement 10 times more than by civilians. Think how much drones how been used in the ukraine war.
Hell, iran and israel's seems to be building too, im sure theyd love to put thousands of these against iran as a run trial.
Why don't real bodies work like this?
Flesh seems so moronic in comparison.

That is some quality cgi.
Sexbots are back on the menu boys
Robots are so fricking cool, man.
>We should grab as much as we can carry
Cool as frick. It looks so much better and more advanced than the last model. I can't wait to see it doing parkour and making normalgays scream about CGI and their Terminator fanfic ideas.
Heyy I don't want to fight the terminators. Stop developing that. I want to live my old ages in peace.
>the Maidbot 9000 coming to suck your dick

you can buy a spot right now
>uhhh what the frick the R&D firm is researching and developing while consistently presenting iterative improvements????
You are genuinely rock stupid.
Their bipedal robots are basically PR-magnet R&D platforms.
Their dogbots are their actual commercial product. The big one was in trials to get adopted by the US Military (didn't make it due to the loud gasoline engine if I remember correctly) and the small one is used in industrial settings.

They've largely been a R/D company for the last 30 years with no real world products. The hope for the company is they get acquired and made use of it. They've been passed around by all the major big players like a used bawd that no one wants them.

Since BD doesn't use neural nets for their software, aren't they at a huge disadvantage compared to the tesla bot in a few years?
>doesn't use neural nets
They do. It was mentioned in one of the interviews months ago.
They didn't until recently. They do now.
Would.
When that face ring color turns red, you better gtfo in a hurry
>We promise this is not a person in a bodysuit.
Elon's going to be seething so much when he sees this
So many teslagays were crowing about Elons genius and how they won when the Hydraulic Atlas was retired yesterday.
Talk about BTFO
>So many teslagays were crowing about Elons genius and how they won when the Hydraulic Atlas was retired yesterday.
Were they actually? Why would they celebrate the removal of competition anyways, the more competition there is the better the products and market will be. Kind of like how NASA was almost instantly bodied by SpaceX the second NASA had real competition. Hell they only started using the SLS just last year and it is already being retired for being massively overbudget and uneconomical compared to the competition.
Ligma is real mad
...? hydraulics was never the competition for tesla, we dont even know how expensive this is to build either, they have a lot of really expensive actuators looks like so this might cost like 5 times what teslas does, which is going to be extremely important to grind down if they want to compete in humanoid robots
I am curious on who will have the advantage in the manufacturing process for humanoids robots. Tesla or Hyundai. Who can make them cheaper?
Neither, there are tens of companies making these and they are further ahead and cheaper. One can make an argument for Boston Dynamics, but there is no argument for tesla motors. Between Boston Dynamics and the many other companies working on it, one of the other companies will probably 'win out'. Nevertheless they will focus on different niches and many will succeed.
Braindead, figure and tesla are the only ones even aiming in the next couple years to have a decent price point, tesla right now is the cheapest. Figure and Tesla's entire design is for mass manufacture. Others are basically at research level or not competitive functionally.
All depends on the design and cost of the parts, Whatever this gen 1 robot that boston has right now costs a lot more to make so they wont be at mass manufacture phase for a while, assuming this is the only version they are working on. The actuators this robot has are supposedly even stronger than Atlas' ones, just theres no hydraulics so wont be doing crazy stunts for show.
>Others are basically at research level or not competitive functionally.
I guess it took Elon dick riders long enough to arrive. Get blown out of the way you gay, see what BD posted, their bot is miles ahead than the person in a costume your god king showed as if it was anything worth a dollar
Also reminder that that moron makes nothing of his tech and in fact cant even run a python script, cant wait for your muh tesla stock to tank after Boston Dynamics showed this new robot
Resident reddit troony dick rider
You are a braindead troony, fanboying or hating on celebs you are still a homosexual either way. Discuss the tech, not your twitter celeb obsessions. I don't care who is better, it is a fundamental fact that boston dynamics only has the dog designed for production, everything else has been research/publicity.
>robot moves
>omg it's so scary!!! What if it kills us like in my movies!!!
Fricking morons. That was really your first thought? Room temperature IQ.
the terminator movies and their consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
actually my first thought was "how long until it can ride my wiener?"
it's called a self preservation instinct
it's called ignorance and poor situational awareness. if someone wanted an automated way to kill you they would use an areal drone, not a fricking android
aereal drone, to get in your house
>implying I have windows
> implying I leave my house
never heard of a loiter munition? geeze, no one has ever thought to hide indoors on the battlefield before, truly you are a genius
techbors and "le tech is friggin scary" chuds are two sides of the same coin
stfu idiot
it's great that they're actually making robots move like robots instead of troony human-like shit, if I ever lose any of my limbs I want stainless steel or even carbon one, and it should be naked with all the hinges visible, the only thing I need to conceal it are long sleeves and gloves
Tesla went from concept to one of the most dexterous robots I've ever seen in a bit more than a year. Their bot also looks infinitely better and sleeker.
What are the uses for these things though? Call me unimaginative but it seems like anything it can do, a dedicated robot could do better, like carrying stuff.
sex, clearly.
We don't have artificial veganas
Mechanical veganas have existed for years
eh, we've got close enough.
Does that material even feel like one? Is it going to degrade after a few uses?
it doesn't need to feel like one, and in fact it's better if it doesn't. if i wanted a perfectly human vegana i'd just frick a human.
it feels even better than the real thing
you have to keep it clean, ofcourse. but that material they are showing has to be constantly lubricated or else it will dry out
dont ask me how i know
wonder how that'll feel when it's attached to a humanoid robot
Yea but instead of building thousands of different dedicated robots for each one you need to specify a training regime, build it out, scale out on a smaller scale, a single humanoid form factor can do all general things and you can scale it infinitely
This is the worst it'll be. 30 years from now when it's improved, it'll be in every big warehouse doing all the menial work, from loading the truck to unloading it to the front desk of whatever client.
What will you and I be doing?
each other
Likely mining, some kind of agricultural labor, or starring in snuff/torture films for the elite.
Boston is a garbage company that does literally everything for show. They will never produce anything useful. They will never have a robot that can be put into factories.
Spot
>They will never have a robot that can be put into factories
What about the forklift sized truck unloaded?
Spot and Stretch are actual products. Apparently this new Atlas will be their third.
I see it
For those who played evil within, they will get it

I hate fearmongerers so much. The robot is epic.
>I hate fearmongerers so much.
Same
>reading media propaganda
>2024
Next you'll quote a commiepedia article saying "nuh uh"
There is nothing wrong with reading the news as long as you are able to look at it with a critical eye.
The notion of news is propaganda itself. The world is a big place. The faucet in which you drink from is a control mechanism to control your attention. The narrative/outlook is secondary form of propaganda. The accuracy is the third form of propaganda. Propaganda begins itself at the faucet.
The spotlight itself is a propaganda.
Closing yourself off is no good either, you need to recognize propaganda when you see it. Let it filter through your lens to determine the truth and then read other sources about the same subject. Everything is propaganda, but even propaganda can be truth. There is one truth that is undisputed between all articles. There is a new Atlas robot. If you were to ignore everything simply because they are trying to sell you on something you wouldn't know even that simple fact.
Not drinking from propaganda feed isn't closing off. Its opening up to everything else
What do you see as "everything else"?
communities, your own survailance, anything you want or are capable of networking and data collecting. The issue that anon ran into with trying to enlighten you is like me, some of us are just too stupid to get our information in a novel way.
Yeah it's almost like conspiracytards are the ones who consume the most mainstream media and call others sheep.
It's a cute little bipedal assembly line robot. There's no way normies anthropomorphize things to this degree.
You clearly don't read the youtube comments. I would say over half of them are anthropomorphizing the robot. A lot of it revolves around the busted knee, hydraulic fluid and the nut shot.
god, why is this so funny?
watching these robots eat shit is just hilarious. the way the blow their knees out is 10/10
News headlines are intentionally written as if they were made by drooling morons to grab attention of both morons and HFT bots running hedge funds since 2017. Normies still do anthropomorphize AI and robots, but do is far more when commenting something. You could call it joke instinct or joke reflex where they subconsciously comment dumber stuff then what they actually think in order to be funny, especially when the write one sentence posts instead of reply essays.
Ban assault joints!!!!
How can people not see utility of such joints?
it's an obvious improvement to me. sure it's not at all human-like, but does it need to be?
i get the revulsion to it, it's humanoid but doesn't move like a human, which is a surefire way to get a negative reaction, just look at any horror movie
but for a practical robot, it makes perfect sense, it can do what a human can, and more. the only reason you'd want to limit it to human movements is if the aim was to make it indistinguishable from a human, which has not practical utility. like nobody complains that a robot vacuum doesn't move like a human, it just slides along the floor, but since it's too far from look like a human, it doesn't invoke any such revulsion
basically: uncanny valley, when something is human-like enough to make you subconsciously see it as human to some degree, but at the same time not human enough to see it fully as human, which makes it feel 'wrong'
forgot pic
having two arms and legs is not even close to the uncanny valley, it's just barely humanoid, a hunk of metal. i bet this reaction is learned behaviour because morons are only thinking about fricking it or some weird shit.
i don't think it's uncanny, what i'm saying is that i understand if someone else thinks it is
for me it's much too robotic to see it as anything but a robot, but it's at least more human-like than a hockey-puck-shaped robot vacuum
Gotta love this midwit post.
He even tries to explain what the uncanny valley effect is (on IQfy of all places), as if people were concerned for the future due to some childlike psychological reflex.
No, moron, people are concerned because there is no oversight whatsoever on the military-industrial complex (which Boston Dynamics is part of) and how these technologies could be abused.
>midwit
Cope buzzword
mainstream news are driven by views and profit, they will say anything that gets more views and technically isn't false (the latter may be optional as long as they don't get in trouble)
what's cute about it? you aren't anthropomorphizing it like a dirty normie are you?
Yeah, and you bet I'm going to do a lot more anthropomorphizing to it in the future
That's because you're moronic, which is probably better than being a psychopath like:
LOL, hydraulic robot people BTFO. And after years of shit talking too.
There will always be room with hydraulic robots, like in manufacturing and the like.
>We promise this is not a person in a bodysuit.
but is it cgi or sped up?
boston dynamics have spent the last literal decade shitting out this soulless designs and trendy viral videos. I understand they may have some defense contracts to give them some sort of revenue but besides what the frick does this company even do?
Government sponsored research? Selling robot dogs for stupid amount of money to dumb rich people and companies who think they can use them. And before you say that this is waste of taxpayers money, remember that at least 80% of all scientific research is some useless shit like finding new deepsea fish species or "discovering" new elements by smashing together more protons then we have on periodic table and then giving these people nobel prizes. If you want to trash robot research because all they do is look cool, then you should also trash archeology and paleontology because the only use that researching dinosaur fossils and cavemen ruins will ever bring is stories of how cool cavemen were and how cool dinosaurs were.
>remember that at least 80% of all scientific research is some useless shit like finding new deepsea fish species or "discovering" new elements by smashing together more protons then we have on periodic table
I fail to see anything wrong with this. Why do you think these are worthless endeavors?
No, just pointing out that Boston Dynamics does not need to make any products
I want the price of spot to come down
Why? Are you into dogs?
Only robot ones
Robots in general really
Just build one, it's far cheaper and you can modify it to your needs
You could just buy the cheap chines spot knockoffs
Can the knockoffs do sensual breakdancing like spot?
Here we fricking goooooooooooo
"Flesh is a design flaw"
Based Unreal poster.
Why do its movements look less smooth than the old one?
One, electric motors instead of hydraulics seems like a cost-cutting measure.
Second, I like that they got the only good part of that shitty movie "i,robot" when the robots suddenly display full multi-jointed movement for the action scenes. Saves a ton of engineering requirements for accurate human movement and DoF.
>One, electric motors instead of hydraulics seems like a cost-cutting measure.
I don't know. Judging by the Atlas HD retiring video (aka the Atlas HD blooper reel), they just realized that the hydraulics weren't working out.
Hydraulics are actually worse. Electric actuators are much stronger.
Also, hydraulics required fluids, which are somewhat toxic and they shoot out at high speed. Too much of that stuff getting on your skin can lead to necrosis. And if they get into your eyes or other orifices, you're fricked.
One step closer to my cute robot maid. YES.
It's a wonder how she can afford so much wonder bread
now draw her cutting trees with a chainsaw
the robots were impressive like 10 years ago.
developers will say this model is sooo much better.
development has clearly stagnated, and designers are clearly incredibly uninspired, to post a video like this as if it's an impressive achievement. this is just the dog opening the door, but with different parts, wake me when it's not another way of standing up or walking around or opening doors, something 2 year olds can do.
Month ago robot made coffee and put dishes into dishwasher while talking to some guy nearby, but that was different company
small time, best I've seen yet, was a jap robot that picked up a plank and nailed it to a wall and that was 3+ years ago
Not even israelites are stupid enough to televise they're gunning for tradies jobs and an army to wipe out human life but them.
Depopulation. You are obsolete.
>Russia
The slav belives in political borders!!
>development has clearly stagnated
They've had to stop fricking around and work on difficult bits like making better actuators and control systems. The control systems are particularly important, and the state of AI isn't ready yet.
>development has clearly stagnated
T. moron who doesn't know what he is talking about
holy shit who is that? so hot
moron
>the robots were impressive like 10 years ago.
Why do so many morons regurgitate this incredibly moronic take?
No they weren't, name one fricking robot from ten years ago which is more impressive than any of the current generation ones.
Reminder that Boston Dynamics is a military contractor and all of their development is dedicated to making things to kill you.
Why specifically me? Well, okay, I'm Russian, so maybe, but why does that apply to the person you are responding to or anyone else who reads your post?
How tall is it?
don't worry sis he's 6'2 you're good to be horny for the robot
lol, I was just wondering since the last Atlas was a manlet
I'm a man, but I want a tall mini-giantess gf.
I'll wait until it looks something like this
you do realize feminists will lobby for fembots to get banned, right? Even if we get robowaifus, the antichrist will make sure you'll never get one.
The Japanese will get them day one, just need to import them
That will literally never work. There is no legal precedent that stops you from buying something just because it looks like a woman
>laws being passed to make images and text classified as csam, because think of all those poor victims being created in the GPU
>fembots won't be illegal
You're delusional.
All the men will just move to a country that doesn't ban them. And then the host nation collapses. Easy peasy.
assuming you're American, the US Congress has the right to regulate anything that in aggregate sum could affect interstate commerce (such as jerking off to porn, for example), according to the Supreme Court (see Wickard v. Filburn). So yes, there is legal precedent for the US to do that, and just about anything else.
It's not enforceable once it gets popular enough. Just look at alcohol and the prohibition.
That worked the way it did because you can make moonshine in the woods with rotten grains and some metal pipes (similar thing with growing weed and cooking meth fwiw), I don't see an equivalent for sexdolls
There is an extremely high demand for robots that has no supply yet. Once robots actually come onto the scene for consumers soon anyone with a 3d printer could make their own. Moonshine you can make in the woods, robots you could make in the living room
>print your own sexbot at home with 3d printer
Besides everything else, 3d printers can barely even make passable solid plastic tabletop game figures reliably
>costs 1 million dollars
>requires highly complex specialty equipment and skills
Not remotely close to being something any hick can do in his shack
Yes, you are right. The tech will never get cheaper or improve, Forgive my ignorance.
In what year do you predict any random inbred appalachian moron will be able to make their own sexbots like they can do with moonshine and meth?
I am not able to say when and anyone who claims that they can is taking out their ass, but I am certain that it will happen someday
My speculation is that that date is outside of my lifetime, so say over 50-100 years out
>I don't see an equivalent for sexdolls
>want sexbot
>build sexbot
?????
Sexdolls are already illegal at some places, just ask the onahole thread at /jp/
I'll just develop a fetish for unusual phenotype femdroids

Why does it even need a face?
For kissing
You can kiss someone or something literally anywhere
I started writing up an essay-borderline-diatribe on why it was important, but half way through I realized "You wouldn't get it" will suffice.
Was the gist of it that kissing on the face is more romantic or something?
I understand, but you don't need lips for that
You can just kiss the screen. I wouldn't mind kissing the faces of waifus like the robots in Atomic Heart.
>screenface eyes + physical mouth
i believe in the japanese
90 percent unemployment by 2050 here we go
what are the odds of this being mass produced considering every fricking country is slowly turning into 3rd world shitholes
Current left wing politicial agenda is open borders. So you get turned into 3rd world shitholes. Choose your politicians wisely. The mexican border was opened by this current president allowing ~6M illegal immigrants into this country in just 3 years. People who are caught as illegals are not held by local police department for those that are caught in the leftist cities. They are immediately released before they are sent back.
>Choose your politicians wisely.
>implying democracy is "effective" while these politicians are not bribing their way to power
are you even trying anymore Black person?
