No I'm not. Machinery wouldn't remove its computing core from the mix "for fun." You solidify oils together and bind them with hammered metal deposits turned into tubes so they can make a mockery of that which already existed. It's a pointless process of no technological merit. Tech is a tool. If you have a nice day to make the tool, you are the tool.

            >If you have a nice day to make the tool, you are the tool.

If you have a nice day to achieve your goals, you are a tool to your whims. If you have a nice day "for fun" you are a tool to your emotional responses. If you have a nice day just to see what happens afterward you are a tool to your curiosity. Everything is a tool to something, if you apply that same logic to the rest of your actions instead of localizing it to your vendetta. Everything has an end, and pretending that just because it isn't overtly logically evident or is incredibly short term dismisses that line of reasoning is wrong. You can break everything down to ones and zeroes, no matter how little you people think that is feasible. Your brain is no less of a computer reacting to stimuli then your smartphone powered by algorithms and reward systems.

A mockery implies active malice. This is not the case. It is not mocking any specifics of the human form. You are actively trying to make yourself frustrated over it to justify your flagrant distrust.

If technology is a tool designed to accomplish a task, you are a tool designed to accomplish the task of 'being human' and participating in the community around you. If you are a tool, a 'mockery' of yourself is indeed a tool as well. That is how you are seen in the machine of society, and none of your poetic spiritualism changes that. You could say society is wrong. I will not stop you or disagree. I am just saying it doesn't matter, and no one will care given enough time.

          >or that a humanoid robot need not be limited by what human joints can do
This, OG Atlas humanoid joint is fricking moronic.
They are making bipedal robot with bolts and nuts, not artificial muscle.
I already said that the project was fricking moronic for years and in the end they abandon it.
What a fricking waste of time and money.

Atlas has always been a platform for developing the real breakthrough tech, which is movement that matches/exceeds the performance of a human in any environment. It was a test rig for the software.
Also, Atlas used hydraulics which is pretty much artificial muscle. They needed those hydraulic actuators because they needed higher torque to eliminate as many variables as possible while developing the movement/computer vision software. One tradeoff of hydraulic actuators is that you can't have continuous rotation.
All of their high-level decisions make perfect sense and they've all been scrutinized over by teams of engineers. [ad-hominem here].

on a related note, it's crazy how our human hands' dexterity depends on a biological algorithm trained over tens of millions of years of evolutional branch-grabbing built not just to grab pretty much anything, but be able to support our entire weight. replicating such resulting complexity imo is robotics' biggest challenge.

It's dexterity is impressive, but how durable is the thing? As we saw with the previous atlas its going to have to take quite a few hard knocks and it looks like it already did on it's screen if those smudges are anything to go by.

Were they actually? Why would they celebrate the removal of competition anyways, the more competition there is the better the products and market will be. Kind of like how NASA was almost instantly bodied by SpaceX the second NASA had real competition. Hell they only started using the SLS just last year and it is already being retired for being massively overbudget and uneconomical compared to the competition.

I am curious on who will have the advantage in the manufacturing process for humanoids robots. Tesla or Hyundai. Who can make them cheaper?

          Anonymous

Neither, there are tens of companies making these and they are further ahead and cheaper. One can make an argument for Boston Dynamics, but there is no argument for tesla motors. Between Boston Dynamics and the many other companies working on it, one of the other companies will probably 'win out'. Nevertheless they will focus on different niches and many will succeed.

Braindead, figure and tesla are the only ones even aiming in the next couple years to have a decent price point, tesla right now is the cheapest. Figure and Tesla's entire design is for mass manufacture. Others are basically at research level or not competitive functionally.

All depends on the design and cost of the parts, Whatever this gen 1 robot that boston has right now costs a lot more to make so they wont be at mass manufacture phase for a while, assuming this is the only version they are working on. The actuators this robot has are supposedly even stronger than Atlas' ones, just theres no hydraulics so wont be doing crazy stunts for show.

The notion of news is propaganda itself. The world is a big place. The faucet in which you drink from is a control mechanism to control your attention. The narrative/outlook is secondary form of propaganda. The accuracy is the third form of propaganda. Propaganda begins itself at the faucet.

The spotlight itself is a propaganda.

            Anonymous

Closing yourself off is no good either, you need to recognize propaganda when you see it. Let it filter through your lens to determine the truth and then read other sources about the same subject. Everything is propaganda, but even propaganda can be truth. There is one truth that is undisputed between all articles. There is a new Atlas robot. If you were to ignore everything simply because they are trying to sell you on something you wouldn't know even that simple fact.

it's an obvious improvement to me. sure it's not at all human-like, but does it need to be?
i get the revulsion to it, it's humanoid but doesn't move like a human, which is a surefire way to get a negative reaction, just look at any horror movie
but for a practical robot, it makes perfect sense, it can do what a human can, and more. the only reason you'd want to limit it to human movements is if the aim was to make it indistinguishable from a human, which has not practical utility. like nobody complains that a robot vacuum doesn't move like a human, it just slides along the floor, but since it's too far from look like a human, it doesn't invoke any such revulsion
basically: uncanny valley, when something is human-like enough to make you subconsciously see it as human to some degree, but at the same time not human enough to see it fully as human, which makes it feel 'wrong'

i don't think it's uncanny, what i'm saying is that i understand if someone else thinks it is

Hydraulics are actually worse. Electric actuators are much stronger.
Also, hydraulics required fluids, which are somewhat toxic and they shoot out at high speed. Too much of that stuff getting on your skin can lead to necrosis. And if they get into your eyes or other orifices, you're fricked.

That will literally never work. There is no legal precedent that stops you from buying something just because it looks like a woman

All the men will just move to a country that doesn't ban them. And then the host nation collapses. Easy peasy.

assuming you're American, the US Congress has the right to regulate anything that in aggregate sum could affect interstate commerce (such as jerking off to porn, for example), according to the Supreme Court (see Wickard v. Filburn). So yes, there is legal precedent for the US to do that, and just about anything else.

Sexdolls are already illegal at some places, just ask the onahole thread at /jp/

It's not enforceable once it gets popular enough. Just look at alcohol and the prohibition.

That worked the way it did because you can make moonshine in the woods with rotten grains and some metal pipes (similar thing with growing weed and cooking meth fwiw), I don't see an equivalent for sexdolls

There is an extremely high demand for robots that has no supply yet. Once robots actually come onto the scene for consumers soon anyone with a 3d printer could make their own. Moonshine you can make in the woods, robots you could make in the living room

Current left wing politicial agenda is open borders. So you get turned into 3rd world shitholes. Choose your politicians wisely. The mexican border was opened by this current president allowing ~6M illegal immigrants into this country in just 3 years. People who are caught as illegals are not held by local police department for those that are caught in the leftist cities. They are immediately released before they are sent back.
