Extropic reveals what they are working on

Its analog circuits that exploit thermal noise in sampling that many machine learning algorithms need to operate, but are relatively expensive (from time and energy standpoint) to do in digital circuits. Thermal noise is also on of the limiting factors that will slow down and stop Moore's law eventually.

this. the AI bubble will burst shortly within the next year or so. And everyone will claim "muh disinformation" and "it's a fad!".
Then the corpos/startups will ensure that the actual AI automation systems that these people are talking of will happen and work well, but it will all be for money making and attention extortion like the way social media built on the Internet's communication aspect.
AI will just build on the LLM and ML architecture used in things like GPT and Sora and whatever. New chips like this will be used, of course, for muh efficiency. And then with the spatial computing stuff to keep you in the pods, and the bugs in the food, it will all line up with Mr Schwab's "own nothing be happy" agenda for 2030. mark my words.

The homosexual behind this is an accelerationist queer who worships nick land and wants to create a posthuman (aka human-less) world. He deleted a bunch of his old tweets about how he thinks ai will kill everyone and that "its worth it to fulfill my dream."

On top of all of that, he's Canadian. Hopefully Trudeau shoves him into a suicide pod.

            >do you think something like a neuralink enchanced human would be "post-human"
In a vacuum? No. In practice? Absolutely. The end goal (explicit or implicit, it doesn't matter) of these homosexuals is to have everyone wired into an advertising system that will effectively erase human autonomy.
            >and thus trying to develop something like that would be anti-human?
Obviously yes. Just as trying to set the atmosphere on fire is inherently anti life, even though "you're just trying to set the atmosphere on fire, not exterminate all life."

homosexual pro-technology human augmentation morons see the immense damage smartphones and the internet have done to human life and want to apply even more of the same kind of damage but on an unimaginably larger scale.

its not a full analog computer but an accelerator for specific AI related functions

We use a lot of energy to wrangle physics to make digital processing work. With their analog approach it's possible to exploit physics that are fought against in digital circuits to do the bulk of the computation. They are targeting Energy Based Models. EBMs are closer to naturaly occuring physical processes and can serve as a sample efficient substitute to SGD.

      >This process of hallucinating every possibility that is not included in a dataset and penalizing such occurrences energetically requires the usage of a lot of randomness, both at training and inference time.
So an infinite nonparametric approach. Interesting. It still has the same issues with Ludic fallacy though.
      >This simple mechanical system is a source of programmable randomness.
Assuming we know the behaviour of the internal components and their temporal variance due to external conditions and degradation, or there is a way to effectively measure them with accuracy and precision.

Very useful for most users! I presume this comes with some sort of peltier system that can somehow exceed the limits of peltier cooling?
      >Extropic’s superconducting chips are entirely passive, meaning we only expend energy when measuring or manipulating its state. This likely makes these neurons the most energy-efficient in the universe.
Phenomenal marketing bullshit detected. We are currently at bullshit level: RED ALERT.
      >Extropic is also building semiconductor devices that operate at room temperature to extend our reach to a larger market.

I mean, yes? That's how superconductors work... so what is the process here to make these room-temperature chips, and how efficient will they be?
      >Many previous AI accelerator companies have struggled to find an advantage because of the memory-boundedness of deep learning; today’s algorithms spend around 25% of their time moving numbers around in memory.

yes that is kind of funny but if the alternative is building your own nuclear power plant to run a some massive AI data center because Moores law is dead and the only way to keep scaling is to just build bigger, then even a room that just needs some cooling and moderate power compared to some complex with its own powerplant is a much smaller scale
