Its analog circuits that exploit thermal noise in sampling that many machine learning algorithms need to operate, but are relatively expensive (from time and energy standpoint) to do in digital circuits. Thermal noise is also on of the limiting factors that will slow down and stop Moore's law eventually.

>This chip will accelerate AI compute way past Moore's Law
>I sat down with @GillVerd and @trevormccrt1 to talk about their new ambitious startup @Extropic_AI launching today
it's dotcom all over again
this. the AI bubble will burst shortly within the next year or so. And everyone will claim "muh disinformation" and "it's a fad!".
Then the corpos/startups will ensure that the actual AI automation systems that these people are talking of will happen and work well, but it will all be for money making and attention extortion like the way social media built on the Internet's communication aspect.
AI will just build on the LLM and ML architecture used in things like GPT and Sora and whatever. New chips like this will be used, of course, for muh efficiency. And then with the spatial computing stuff to keep you in the pods, and the bugs in the food, it will all line up with Mr Schwab's "own nothing be happy" agenda for 2030. mark my words.
Frick off and die, advertising antihuman homosexual. Don't bother buying an ad because we already hate you. Black person.
anti human? wtf
The homosexual behind this is an accelerationist queer who worships nick land and wants to create a posthuman (aka human-less) world. He deleted a bunch of his old tweets about how he thinks ai will kill everyone and that "its worth it to fulfill my dream."
On top of all of that, he's Canadian. Hopefully Trudeau shoves him into a suicide pod.
sounds like a strawman
Sounds like you're a homosexual. Go look at his Twitter alt:
Twitter.com/beffjezos
Sorry, *@basedbeffjezos
Even his name is fat and moronic, just like him.
I know what he posts, maybe we disagree with respect to some fundamental beliefs
do you think something like a neuralink enchanced human would be "post-human" and thus not a human anymore and thus trying to develop something like that would be anti-human?
>do you think something like a neuralink enchanced human would be "post-human"
In a vacuum? No. In practice? Absolutely. The end goal (explicit or implicit, it doesn't matter) of these homosexuals is to have everyone wired into an advertising system that will effectively erase human autonomy.
>and thus trying to develop something like that would be anti-human?
Obviously yes. Just as trying to set the atmosphere on fire is inherently anti life, even though "you're just trying to set the atmosphere on fire, not exterminate all life."
homosexual pro-technology human augmentation morons see the immense damage smartphones and the internet have done to human life and want to apply even more of the same kind of damage but on an unimaginably larger scale.
so you are basically just anti-technology
which is pretty funny on a forum specifically about technology but I guess that is not very rare
probably a christian too I guess?
No, just not a homosexual psychopath like you
the end goal is not to have everyone wired into an advertising system
nobody is stopping you from living in the woods
in the future you will have even more choices what to do, you could have entire orbitals dedicated to people living like the amish or whatever
I can't tell if you're delusional or a liar
>the end goal is not to have everyone wired into an advertising system
That's what happened with phones and the internet, and it fits the goals of literally every large entity currently investing in technology.
>nobody is stopping you from living in the woods
The woods will be paved over to make room for more shitty concrete monstrosities filled with Black folk and homosexuals (you)
>in the future you will have even more choices what to do
If you're rich and comoliant with the tyrants who will rule that hell, sure
>you could have entire orbitals dedicated to people living like the amish or whatever
Wtf are you talking about? The only people rich enough to maintain something like that are also psychopathic biological traitors. That will be inaccessible to anyone normal.
If people like you are genuinely moronic enough to think that increasing technological capabilities will actually improve the lives of common people then maybe you'll just fail. That would be nice.
I believe it because that is what has actually happened
>people can import microplastic filled corn syrup candy from the other side of the world, that means they're happier!
>people can watch porn all day long, that means their lives have improved!
Happiness and psychological wellbeing have fricking plummeted in the last 30 years: Aka the decades where "people" like you have gained power and begun to implement what you think is an ideal society. Food additives, the internet, television, and psychoactive medication have all drastically harmed society in the name of GDP. No one except for corporations has actually benefitted from any of it. You want to keep doing the same shit that's making life hell, but faster, so you will get a faster hell. Recent technology has only made life "better" if you define "better" to mean "how many jeet slaves can we import into the west to make our quarterly profits higher."
completely separate problems, I would actually argue that anti-meritocratism that is happening in the west now is also anti-technology
Yeah I'm sure that's why tech companies and the psychotic harpies that run their HR departments are the ones who have gone out of their way to spearhead it. And a lack of meritocracy is tangential to the actual issue at hand. Typical autist freak, can only hyperfocus.
tech companies have been co-opted like most things have, its a general cultural problem, not a problem with technology itself
you are connecting things that are completely separate
>you are connecting things that are completely separate
Yeah, that's what schizos do.
No, all the original founders (Brin, Jobs, etc) were hyper leftist homosexuals from the start. Even a lot of the original titans of computing were very far left, like Stallman. Why do you keep lying?
like for instance a counter example would be Elon Musk, he is spearheading technological development but at the same time very anti-woke
the founders are not the technology
The founders and the engineers formed the same culture and, broadly, had the same opinions. The tech companies would not have existed without them.
Elon musk is first of all an autistic lying homosexual that fricks up half the things he touches, second of all a drug addict in his sixties, and third of all would have been considered far left 20 years ago. Are you mentally damaged enough to be a musk worshipper too?
In practice it is and always will be. The only people designing and producing any kind of augmentations will be corporations. Your troonyhumanism will never give you your gay power fantasies unless you're a corporate sociopath.
>Because mixing with technology is the most efficient state of life for humanity in the near future, it's evolution not that different than what happens in nature, the most fit being triumphs over the less fit beings.
You sound like a fifteen year old, cringe overload. The most "efficient" state for humanity is just extinction, you have no idea what you're talking about. And survival of the fittest will likely result in high IQ autists getting exterminated by a mob of normal people once yet another utopian lie fails to pan out.
>the opinion of the plebs is completely irrelevant, always have been in the entirety of human history.
>moronic techjeet doesn't even know about the grachus brothers, let alone understand that the United States is a republic
>At lest Ted acted on his beliefs and started using violence to achieve his political goals, internet luddites like you are lame and delusional
All we have to do is inform normal people lol. They already agree with us, you genuinely have to have a neurological disorder (autism, sociopathy) to want the world that you "people" do. The violence will come when they understand what you're trying to build and it will be legal.
Already do, and I sell merch and some other shit to e/-ACK morons on the side.
>the "normal" people are going to rise up and kill the intellectual elite
You're just a communist, bro. Own it.
You have no understanding of how the world works.
>it's time to admit it and to deprecate humanity in favor of cyborgs and robots
Because moronic manchildren who watch too much anime (you) will stamp their feet and cry if we don't?
>This is shortsighted, in the world we are going to advertising is not even necessary anymore. I would be surprised if capitalism still exists once augmented traders and ai break the financial markets
You don't understand anything about what you're talking about.
>I don't give a shit about the plebs.
Exactly. Therefore I am telling the plebs about you and your desires so that they can regulate our industry out of existence and then have you executed.
First reply meant for
so what I am getting at is basically you are scared for your job? lol
scared of becoming obsolete
>LOLLLL YOU DONT WANT PEOPLE TO STARVE TO DEATH OR BECOME SLAVES TO MICROSOFT FOREVER HAHAH WOWWWW
Jeet autists are something else. And no my job is pretty safe for the foreseeable future, although I'm anticipating the next big thing being "bugman techbro hunting" and I'm considering making a career switch.
actually laughed out loud reading this
literally just invest in the companies making this a reality, you can then live passively on those investments
>Because moronic manchildren will stamp their feet and cry if we don't?
Because mixing with technology is the most efficient state of life for humanity in the near future, it's evolution not that different than what happens in nature, the most fit being triumphs over the less fit beings.
>Therefore I am telling the plebs about you
If that's the best retort you have then you already lost this, the opinion of the plebs is completely irrelevant, always have been in the entirety of human history.
At lest Ted acted on his beliefs and started using violence to achieve his political goals, internet luddites like you are lame and delusional.
total meatsack genocide
Good morning sir
Humans have been obsolete since the start of the industrial revolution, I am tired to pretend otherwise, it's time to admit it and to deprecate humanity in favor of cyborgs and robots.
>to have everyone wired into an advertising system that will effectively erase human autonomy
This is shortsighted, in the world we are going to advertising is not even necessary anymore. I would be surprised if capitalism still exists once augmented traders and ai break the financial markets.
>increasing technological capabilities will actually improve the lives of common people
I don't give a shit about the plebs.
>The end goal (explicit or implicit, it doesn't matter) of these homosexuals is to have everyone wired into an advertising system that will effectively erase human autonomy.
I'm sure capitalist orgs trying to shove random shit up your ass is the same as trans-humanism. fricking moron.
protip: you're just being exposed to a side of humanity you dislike
>Don't bother buying an ad
little timmy finally learned "buy an ad" shilling is not even an insult
>need to add randomness to output just to hide the fact that ""ai"" is just a probabilistic autocompleter
do aidrones really?
>do aidrones really?
Yes, they even had the entire field laid wide open, no mystery a decade ago with neural networks. Now somehow, all that is forgotten and it is ``magical'' and ``the beginning of a new frontier''.

>His writing has variously discussed themes of scientific racism and eugenics, or what he briefly called "hyper-racism"
sounds pretty based if you ask me
None of that is what techgays like Gill like him for. Land is also a Satanist (was friends with the founder of the Order of the Nine Angles) and genuinely an evil person. Go read "meltdown" and keep in mind that Land thinks what he's pointing towards is a good thing.
like if you want to live like a medieval peasant, go ahead
nothing is stopping you, nobody is paving anything
Are you fricking moronic? morons like you whine about protected forests and national parks all the time. "We need more housing for all the poor infinity pajeets please think of the chirren we need to bulldoze the forests NOW and replace them with apartments". Literally happening all around me. Stop lying you fricking israelite homosexual.
importing jeets and developing better computers are entirely orthogonal, you are insane man
someone finally bothered reading up on qfp's? Nip own all the patents how will this work out?
give me the scope, what's the deal with analog circuits? how is this a big improvement over digital? I understand the advantages of quantum, but I don't see the advantage to analog
its not a full analog computer but an accelerator for specific AI related functions
the advantage is supposedly less energy use, maybe speed and scalability but idk, this is one chip
We use a lot of energy to wrangle physics to make digital processing work. With their analog approach it's possible to exploit physics that are fought against in digital circuits to do the bulk of the computation. They are targeting Energy Based Models. EBMs are closer to naturaly occuring physical processes and can serve as a sample efficient substitute to SGD.
I have no idea what this is but their site leading with buzzword salad and the overall air pompous hype does not give a good first impression. Looks like something akin to perpetual motion machine sales pitch.

explainer thread
Yeah, okay. There's no fricking way these things aren't going in anything but datacenter machines.
they do have plans for consumer grade that don't use josephson junctions, but not really sure what the point would be then
maybe they could still sample randomness but it would be way slower or something (as it would take longer for thermal noise to reset the circuit for a new randomness sampling step)
>"matter's natural fluctuations as a computational resource"
Extreme marketing bullshit detected.
>This process of hallucinating every possibility that is not included in a dataset and penalizing such occurrences energetically requires the usage of a lot of randomness, both at training and inference time.
So an infinite nonparametric approach. Interesting. It still has the same issues with Ludic fallacy though.
>This simple mechanical system is a source of programmable randomness.
Assuming we know the behaviour of the internal components and their temporal variance due to external conditions and degradation, or there is a way to effectively measure them with accuracy and precision.
>Extropic’s first processors are nano fabricated from aluminum and run at low temperatures where they are superconducting
Very useful for most users! I presume this comes with some sort of peltier system that can somehow exceed the limits of peltier cooling?
>Extropic’s superconducting chips are entirely passive, meaning we only expend energy when measuring or manipulating its state. This likely makes these neurons the most energy-efficient in the universe.
Phenomenal marketing bullshit detected. We are currently at bullshit level: RED ALERT.
>Extropic is also building semiconductor devices that operate at room temperature to extend our reach to a larger market.
>Doing so sacrifices some energy efficiency compared to superconducting devices.
I mean, yes? That's how superconductors work... so what is the process here to make these room-temperature chips, and how efficient will they be?
>Many previous AI accelerator companies have struggled to find an advantage because of the memory-boundedness of deep learning; today’s algorithms spend around 25% of their time moving numbers around in memory.
Excellent. Then we can see blocks of SRAM coming to cards soon with better memory management technologies.
>We're trying to decentralize control of AIs
>...By making them use superconductors, which is only possible in supercooled datacenters
>Oh yeah, and it will totally be more energy efficient to cool superconductors than traditional silicon chips, just trust me bro.
yes that is kind of funny but if the alternative is building your own nuclear power plant to run a some massive AI data center because Moores law is dead and the only way to keep scaling is to just build bigger, then even a room that just needs some cooling and moderate power compared to some complex with its own powerplant is a much smaller scale
something most companies (and universities) would be able to do vs only a few megacorporations
>https://www.extropic.ai/future
Holy shit what a read. I found the achilles heel though:
>Extropic’s first processors are nano fabricated from aluminum and run at low temperatures where they are superconducting.
Muh superconductors. Just build your computers out of superconductors bro. Yeah sure bro.
