Hacker News I feel is the most pure form of a social network out there. Simple site, basic upvote/downvote features and comments. What more do you need? The site even works without Javascript.

It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
it's full of redditors though
not redditors
they're just midwits and that's how insufferably midwits are regardless of what community they're part of
>implying r*dditurds are not midwits
get a load of this moron
they're dimwits like yourself
>t. r*ddit
they are dimwits pretending to be smart, therefore midwits
that's not what a midwit is
midwits think they're smart when they're just average at best, which makes them insufferable
dimwits and topwits have similar way of thinking, therefore neither could be plebbit
reddit didn't invent midwits, dimwit
if you think they're redditors, you don't want to meet redditors. Hacker News people are at least three standard deviations above redditors in IQ (because redditors are three standard deviations below the mean). Reddit has perhaps the dumbest userbase I've ever seen, though they used to be smarter last decade.
Source? Do you have a single source to back up your claim? Oh you don't have a peer reviewed source? Then you do realize that this is anecdotal evidence then, right? Ignoramus.
get rid of votes and it's perfect
Many of the posters are insufferable and they will go out of their way to defend gayman because they want to work there on day.
It's transparent.
they're midwits
smart enough to be competent and fairly complex
too dumb to be good and competitive at anything
this frustration manifests itself as anger, hostility, passive aggressiveness
and they use you as an emotional dumpster instead of being mature
You think this doesn't apply to you but instead of being a millionaire you're just some wagie homosexual posting on IQfy so why don't you just shut the frick up homosexual?
captcha:GAYS
No, it doesn't apply to me as I'm not a passive aggressive ignorant twat who thinks he's hot shit for reading the documentation.
>who thinks he's hot shit for reading the documentation.
You should because nobody's reading it these days. I don't know why.
I don't blame the zoomers. Information overload. But being an arrogant twat doesn't help with anything. It keeps you ignorant, and you make people less likely to cooperate with you if you communicate hostility.
They suffer from self-importance. Nobody really gives a shit about what they think, yet they engage in prolonged tirades about some unimportant subjects. Complete lack of original thoughts. I hope the entire board will be replaced with ChatGPT if it has not happened already.
IQfy is worst. At least burntsushi came to talk about rg.
Im actually working on a pedantic hackernews bot that just responds with repetitive garbage. I wonder if I would get in trouble for renting it out? I wouldnt charge much.
>They suffer from self-importance. Nobody really gives a shit about what they think, yet they engage in prolonged tirades about some unimportant subjects.
I hate Hackernews, but how is that any different from IQfy?
Upvote culture always results in redditspeak
I got so much value from HN. From book recommendations to advice and interesting stuff. It was genuinely good for me for a long while. I don't access it much these days, but because I don't have the frame of mind to dig the archives, but it's good. Having said that, I have a +10yo account and barely 50 posts in it and that's enough. It's hard to engage with some of the people in there. kek
>basic upvote/downvote
That's what killing everything, imagine 4chin with a system like that and without the possibility to post anonymously. What a fricking nightmare.
IQfy also have upvotes and downvotes though
What makes you think (You)s isn't the same thing?
Any (You) can be a dopamine kick sure, but when there is a entire system capable of hiding or removing your comment or entire conversations with the help of bots/moderators aware of every single shitpost on the website at all time, you get a preddit clone with people begging for good karma and medals. This is the nightmare some people want to impose as the new normal on the internet: everything said should be GBP based. Your obedience is their victory.
Your brain is broken if you think replying to someone is equivalent to upvotes.
Yeah I agree
Like and upvotes are just garbage that enforces group think
as a long time channian, how would you describe the secret sauce that entraps people like us and rejects completely the redditor? is it a particularly strong ego, that can handle the label of anonymous, or the particularly weak ego that never had a label to begin with?
Rejecting morons not on the same line as us has always been there here. Some of us instinctively know by experience when glowies and israeliteBlack folk want to derail things, particularly on /misc/. They already lost that war.
still we all know the digital pariah, someone on a traditional post count myphp bbs fourm that sticks out like a sore thumb and can't get the hint to find his own tribe. what is it that makes IQfy so hostile to the redditor from a foundational stand point?
also on a tangent i'm sad we use the perjorative normies instead of the traditional longform normalhomosexuals, reminiscent of the mid 00's normalization of "homophobia" or homonausia, more accurately given nomenclature
Only newbies say normies.
Only normies say newbie
Neener neener is OT for this thread. One must speak in faux intellectual modes and passively aggressively insult one another.
I just believe that what we are saying is more important than who we are.
this is the only place people talk completely freely
Combine upvotes with censorship and you get an unescapable bubble. Thats whats killing the internet. The inability to have any form of coherent discussion that matter
It's called 2chan. It's this magical place with a like button and a button that votes to delete posts you don't like. Purely democratic, no janitors or mods. Posts that get enough "del" votes it gets deleted.
>reddit lite troony news
Okay
>John Doe just died
>I remember working with him in obscure project #42
>His contributions we're outstanding
>He'll be missed
They're a bunch of inbreed techno autists out of touch with reality
It's full of pajeets
everyone here is complaining about comments but who gives a shit, I never engage with them anyway.
It's the articles that get posted that are absolutely gormless and uninteresting
>How I tripled productivity by switching from gaylr to gayster
>Paul Graham farted. Why you should too.
>Random paper about language theory that you have no use for but you will upvote because that's what you think a smart person would like
>Thing that has nothing to do with technology I just saw on reddit/twitter
you forgot about the inane obsession with (misusing) references, sometimes to the point of replacing a comma with [0] (also 0-based indexing to sound extra computer sciency which means you're even smarter!)
[0] suck my dick
>Thing that has nothing to do with technology I just saw on reddit/twitter
So it's basically just this board.
+1 karma / upvote.
inb4 IQfy or a front-end to it adds voting. xchan? inb4 the votes are hosted on a trannie server and modified for friends.
They delete anything truthful like any of these censorship platforms
I find it unreadable, but to each their own. The community there is what I like the most.
>upvote/downvote features

Midwit from the authoritative source: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Midwit
same thing dude
Yup
>excessive pedantry
Yup, this sums up orange reddit pretty well
somehow hn manages to combine a reddit-view on everything with corporate ass licking. didn't think they could square that circle but they have.
The other day I saw a paper on skiplists up voted. now I'm trying to find a use for this. I will force it into our software somewhere just you wait
hacker news is probably the only place where you will see people being consistently wrong about everything in 5+ paragraphs while referencing obscure theorems
they a remarkably good contrarian indicator
in a way they are the anti IQfy, verbose and always wrong
HN is full of smart people that are to liberal to be functional.
Their layout similar to Reddit is what every 2000s forum should have used. So much wasted space and so much scrolling just for a single post on these older forum styles.
more page loads in that era meant more ads revenue
now google doesnt give a frick about them anymore
I need less (remove the updoots). More quality content.
It's not great but at least they sometimes post actually interesting programming articles unlike IQfy or reddit.
Every person I know that is obsessed with it thinks he's in with the elites of the world and highest IQ people but all they bring from there is just reddit takes.
man I miss old slashdot
nah jk it also sucked dicks
probably the only website on the internet with more harsher mods than IQfy
