Do you assume Christianity has any logical consistency?

They just make shit up, like they do to fit anything into their worldview. That's kinda the point of religion. Helps you cope with reality.

The Southern Baptist Church was intentionally created to soften the religious and moral implications of chattel slavery for one.

A lot of the mindset was that slavery was good for Africans and would civilize them (somehow), but stuff like being born into slavery, multiple generations being enslaved and raised entirely in the US with no connection to African culture, and families being broken up during the sale of slaves posed moral problems that were not lost on even the most ardently pro-slavery people.

Slave owners didn't give a shit while the 99% where impoverished yeowmen farmer strivers that couldn't be fricking bothered to care. This is why Whigs could have aaved US and stopped the CW from happening, all they had to do was induatrialize the south, crush slaver power via capitalist power and then end the rotten piece of shit by choking it with the hands of proletarianized yeowmen and crushed with industrial steel.

I'm an Eastern Euro commie who is autistically obsessed with early American history, and what could have been different to prevent the rise of the great satan we see today. Yes, it was the slavers fault, because in early US the yeowman couldn't really vote, it was a beyond fricked political machine that only cared for the aristocratic vote. Yes, of course southerners were more racist, but not pathologically so. My post is more just me shitting on Jeffersonianism, because that is what killed the US from becoming more like Europe - Jeffersonian dream of self sufficient yeowmen farmers, and the autistic hate for centralization that followed it. National banks, infrastructure construction, incentives for capitalist production in the south - that is how US could have been saved.

is a dumb one because a society of farmers goes nowhere.

1.) They used certain Biblical passages to justify slavery
2.) Slavery was often justified as a way to turn pagan or Muslim Africans into Christians, saying "It's for their own good!"

They were not christians, they were mostly animists forced to convert into christianity (and they gained some right through that conversion), but for the owners it was more or less like baptising cattle, they didn't really care.

Many in the South believed (or convinced themselves to believe) that God had created the African to be the slave of the white man, that this was his divine order.
Ironically enough, abolitionism arose from the Second Great Awakening in the North, and abolitionists were generally extremely religious people who believed that slavery was not just a political wrong, but a moral sin.

You saw similar stuff back in the Middle Ages when the Catholic Church had almost complete control of scripture, and priests were able to pick and choose versus that encouraged serfs to believe that this was the divine order of God; that they were peasants because God had intended them to be peasants, that the social order was divinely ordained. This is why it was such a massive deal when Martin Luther translated the Bible into German; it made the Bible accessible to many more people, and they could see all the parts of the Bible that had been conveniently left out of the sermons.

      >Many in the South believed (or convinced themselves to believe) that God had created the African to be the slave of the white man
That was one of the things that the Talmud explicitly taught - and at the time it was repeated for mass consumption as if it was from the Bible, when it's not actually in the Bible. The majority of the slave ships and slave trading activity were in reality done by talmudists.

And with regard to a slave who acquired property, the slave belongs to whom and the property belongs to whom? The slave and his property belong to the master. And moreover, it is several years now that you have not served us. First israeli Synagogue Was Dedicated in the United States
          December 2, 1763
Many settlers traveled to the American colonies for freedom of worship. Quakers, Puritans, israelites, and people of other faiths arrived to create communities in what would become the United States. On December 2, 1763, members of the israeli community of Newport, Rhode Island, witnessed the dedication of the Touro Synagogue, the first synagogue in the American colonies. The synagogue was named for Isaac Touro, its first officiating rabbi. Touro became the center of a thriving israeli community.

Near the peak of northern slavery in the 1750s, there were towns in the southern part of Rhode Island whose populations were as much as 30% Black and enslaved.

The European-African slave trade began in AD 1455 when Pope Nicholas V of the Roman Catholic Church issued a Papel Bull authorizing the Kingdom of Portugal, ruled at that time by King Jaol II aka the Perfect, to authorize his subjects to enslave any Muslims or pagans they encountered on the West Coast of Africa south of Latitude 24N (this # may be wrong). No mention was made of race, nationality, ethnicity, skin color etc. This Bull was issued in response to slave raids conducted by African Muslims/pagans against Roman Catholics.

The justification was economical. There was a labor shortage and Africans supposed a perfect solution at that time. Americans knew they were humans, Americans knew it was not fair. But they saw the opportunity and took it. The rationalization came later.
