How to clean dirt off a book?

I bought this online in new condition and although it hasn’t been read, it wasn’t taken care of properly

I also wish to know this. I have a bunch of books that are dirty in this manner and I'm afraid if I use water it'll immediately soak and warp the pages

Microwave it for like 5 seconds max. The microwave rays incinerate the dust and dirt immediately. I always microwave my books before and after handling them.

Get a clorox wipe, wring it out really good, and use that. Any remaining moisture that gets on the edge of a page isn't going to do anything to it

have a nice day, you autistic loser. It's the fricking little shits like you that are tanking my bookstore's seller rating. Giving us "bad" reviews because the fricking brand new book has minor shit like this on it. Frick you.

This isn’t minor shit, moron. The pages are smeared with dirt. Treat your books properly instead of like a filthy animal.

        >This isn't minor shit
Explain how it is not. How does this prevent you from reading the book? Saying you're OCD and autistic and can't stand minor imperfections is not a valid reason.

I don’t give a frick if the cover has damage but if the pages are damaged, then I’ll give you 4 stars out of 5. Motherfrickers like you should be aware that quality matters. The issue is not readability, you filthy swine.

Yes which could potentially have mold and other library ruining horrors

is not fricking brand new you narcissist. im going to give 1 star reviews from here on out to smudged books because of liars like you holding yourselves you bottom tier standards. Literally all you have to do is lightly sand it and I wouldn't care and give 5 stars.

        >Literally all you have to do is lightly sand it and I wouldn't care and give 5 stars
That would still count as shelf worn. If you're going to make an autistic rating system, you should at least do it right.

Nope, manufacturers are professional enough to dust their shelves. If you have grimy shelves while trying to sell, you're not professional. You don't get a pass for negligence you israelite.

Your book has that wear from it being heavy. The manufacturer made the book so no matter how clean your shelves are, the boards and dustcover were going to be fricked like that too. Assuming it was the seller is very generous to people who made the book prone to shelf wear.

STFU all this excuse making to ignore it's not brand new condition

Most sellers are going to tell you if a book has shelf wear though, so if you're ordering something which is brand new with minor shelf wear, that's on you. The manufacturer has created future problems for you too.

bro it's either brand new or it's not, there's no such thing as brand new but worn.
            Brand new is brand new.
            Used is used.

Brand new just means it's straight from the distributor/manufacturer, and not pre-owned. Shelf wear doesn't make anything pre-owned.

            >minor shelf wear
OP isn't minor though, that's disgusting. Do you also claim your cavities show pearly white teeth? homosexual.

That's definitely minor shelf wear. You're confusing no shelf wear with shelf wear.

That still doesn't justify not dusting your shelves at least once a week if you're trying to sell books, specially if you list them as new.

It might be from metal shelves, not dust. Especially considering the size.

...just take better care of your books or describe and photograph any flaws for your posting, obviously.

Sand it, and buy books that aren't bound in a way they'll shift under their own weight no matter how you store them.

I have like 460 books in my library. Some with the usual transportation damage on the cover or spine but this is the first book I order that has dirt on the pages.

Somebody shat in the warehouse, I'm pretty sure about it. Evaporating fecal matter tends to accumulate on paper and sometimes textiles too, if the source material isn't taken care of quickly enough. To make matters worse, a bacteria can grow.

you can probably just use an eraser

fine grain sandpaper, keep it flush to the block both sides

Blowtorch, it scorches off the dirt but leaves the paper unmarred if you swipe quickly

Fine grit sandpaper, just compress the pages together before you start.
