Forever war by Joe Hadleman is meant to be a rebuttal to the novel starship troopers. It's not Campy or OTT but it is military and very funny.
I had the gift of getting late to watching it at the theater and losing the first few minutes of the movie. That almost infinitely improved my enjoyment of it.
