Should a PSU be placed in the bottom or top of a case? What's the pros and cons of each option?

electricity is lighter than air so it floats upwards which means it moves quicker from the bottom to the components above the PSU.
That's completely unrelated to enclosed PSU dood. The best placement would be where an extractor is to reject the hot air out of the case, and where it doesn't block any component. So it depends primarily of the case.
It doesn't really matter, but I prefer bottom because that lowers the center of gravity and makes it harder to topple the case should someone or something run into it.
This. A good quality PSU means it's going to be on the heavier side, so it just makes sense.
Depends if you can install an electron pump.
What about an onahole slot?
Anon just because it has an exhaust doesn't mean you're supposed to stick your dick into it.
r/dontputyourdickinthat
it should just be built into the motherboard
At the top it blows hot air on the rest of the components
A computer PSU exhausts hot air out the back. How'd you install it so that it's blowing into your case?
The back? You mean the bottom, where the fan is.
>You mean the bottom, where the fan is.
That's an intake fan.
You're right. My bad!
>hot air rises in a case with fans
ok moron
At the top it draws in case air and pushes it out the back of the case.
Not if you flip it upside down
heat rises so have it at the top. having the PSU at the bottom directly under your GPU RAM and CPU is moronic as its just heating them up unnecessarily.
my torrent nano has it at the top, first time i ever built a pc with a top mounted PSU.
Not sure if it matters but I kinda agree with this guy:
Seems like it's better at the top and not right next to your GPU.
thats not how airflow works when theres fans blowing, idiot
Yes it still does, just not as much as when there is no air circulation. PSU needs to be on the bottom, but not below the GPU or PSU.
It technically does, but if you have even one fan moving air in the case, it completely nullifies warm air naturally rising.
>PSU at bottom
>intake air from bottom
>exhaust air out back
>none of PSU airflow goes into case
moron. Im sure the small amount of heat it gives out into the case is gonna be a game changer.
You never built a computer have you?
It's ok. There is no shame in that
At the bottom so the intake has access to the coolest air available.
I have a Sliger Cerebus X Case. PSU is top & at the front.
Where the psu text is written, exhaust towards front panel
Cases just prevent everything from getting optimal airflow
if you put it at the bottom, where will you install your case cats?
At the bottom but lift your case up a bit and build/install a tray filter you can quickly remove and clean because the PSU sucks dust like mad.
The con of putting it at the top is it hinders 240mm radiator placement and practically makes 360mm impossible. That's why most consumer/end-user-oriented/"gamer" cases have the PSU at the bottom, to keep those options open. And sure, you could do something moronic like put it in the front, but then it blocks your drives, or at best blows hot air over them.
There's no pro unless you're an absolute cheapskate and won't spring for case fans, in which case the PSU acts as an extra exhaust fan. That's why most mass produced PCs used to put it at the top, because they could save $3 on an exhaust fan.
>another component generating heat in front of the front intake fans
vs
>PSU pulling air from the bottom and out the back, isolated from the rest of the chassis
Also, find me a chassis that gives has an entry point for the power cable for the front position without going through the now empty bottom slot.
you seem confused
doesnt matter at all its just preference.
Top-rear as intended in the original 1995 ATX standard.
>The original ATX specification called for a power supply to be located near to the CPU with the power supply fan drawing in cooling air from outside the chassis and directing it onto the processor. It was thought that in this configuration, cooling of the processor would be achievable without the need of an active heatsink.
This is what they took from you.
was why the cpu angled?
cpu slots did all kinds of wacky stuff back then. before dual core in the pentium 2/3 days they would put 2 slots on the board.
>2 slots
those were the fricking days
damn, never have I wanted to be rich more than when I found out about 2 socket motherboards
they still make dual socket boards, not to mention quad sockets
Outside of it, ideally, basically on top. But most people don't rock open cases. Your aio radiator should also mount external to the case, and the case should be left open.
Bottom is better because there's more room there.
If you mount it on top, you're going to have clearance issues with cpu heatsings and any top mounting hardware(radiators/fans).
it should be placed furthest to the GPU/pcieslot and CPU and memory.
it's a noise source since it emits a lot of electromagnetic frequencies whereas your GPU/CPU/fans already emit a lot of magnetic frequencies
i have it on top, i want it on the bottom but ultimately as long as it works i absolutely don't give a shit about it
