I'm French and nobody says this word for everyday use. You probably aren't French. You probably just think you're smart for knowing the word is French in origin.

Récalcitrant est un mot de tous les jours, c’est pas particulièrement soutenu.
Ensuite tous le monde peut voir ou deviner que le mot est d’origine française, ça démontre aucune intelligence particulière, encore plus si t’es français donc ton raisonnement n’a aucun sens.

Obstiné= who wants to do something at any cost
Recalcitrant = who doesn’t want to do something

Yes..? It literally is that’s why there are two words for it? Are you unironically braindead?
Recalcitrant implies a refusal of something, obstiné doesn’t. You can’t use those words interchangeably, learn2french moron

Obstinate in his refusal has a meaning close to recalcitrant, yeah.
And if you replace obstinate by recalcitrant in your example, it becomes a double negation and loses it’s meaning, proving that these two words have different meaning and can’t be used interchangeably.

Je pense honnetement entendre 'récalcitrant' au moins une fois par mois, sans compter le fait que tous le monde ayant grandi en lisant des BD considere le mot comme faisant partie du vocabulaire standard.
