After seeing several movies based on his books and reading On Writing I've come to the conclusion that I don't think I want to ever read his actual books.

His novels would be great if they were shorter. I’ve read about half of them and every one of them should have had about 25% shorter. It could have been over half its published size.

I remember him talking about writing like 25 characters at once, and in the end, just killing off half of them for no reason to make it easier to write. Isn't this straight up admitting that your work is worthless? What was the point of having so many of them in the first place?

He's a process-oriented, ontologically styled writer; he writes simply to write, & see what happens, with very little regard for long-term structure or design. it's why the last third of most of his novels turn to crap
