most music devices are stupid anyways. You can recreate the thing of most electronic insturments with a fricking numpad. if companies made a musical electronic device that just acted as controllers and made another device(a computer) the thing that acutally plays the thing prices would be alot cheaper.

well you can just use vsts in fl studio or something

I think I agree with you anon, are you sure there are no products like this on the market now? Also I'm sure people that buy synths might be apprehensive about a product like that because they don't want to get fricked over by the software. they usually have MIDI input/output/Thru, CV out and Gate out so you can use it to play your modular.
They have sequencers and memory for different instruments, loads of addressable nobs for each instrument.
You can get simple one that has none of that for 50bux MIDI controllers can be very complex or very simple.

        Anonymous

Don't but the field. It's overrated
Get the original on eBay/reverb/locally for under $700 and it will hold its value for you to resell if you don't like it

I did this twice and only ate the shipping costs really.
They are really fun to play with but both times I've found I don't have the knack for making full songs.
If is get back into gamedev I may do it again to make some repetitive background music

maybe I'll do that if I decide to learn production. I'm currently cursed with the attribute of my interests waning and waxing over time so who knows if I'll get to it

Get a used Field if you can find one. The original OP-1 is a decade old and it shows. Sound quality is garbage, the whole signal chain is in mono, sample length is cut in half and you only get one tape reel. Storage is also significantly smaller in general.

honestly I got out of electronic music, that shit will get flooded with AI anyways. just pick up a real instrument and do live music.

if you really want to bother all you need is a midi keyboard (and not even that since you can also use your keyboard)

the rest of the market is autismo toys for rich kids but will mostly be bought by broke kids and resold on secondary market.

This. There's unimaginable amounts of overpriced crap for sale to "musicians." It's every bit as bad as audiophile.
If you are just "screwing around" with keys this is all you need, and you can go a lot cheaper, but it's solid and will do MIDI.

            Anonymous

Like, here's a basic ass unbranded MIDI keyboard, if you just want MIDI controller to PC and nothing else, for game dev or whatever.
This is as much as you "need" to spend to get basic keys input to a computer. I probably wouldn't gig with it but perfectly usable for home hobby crap.
Not saying there's not a use case for $2000 composers, just that if you need one, you'll know it, and don't need my shitty advice.

I'd imagine it wasn't Nintendo Switch levels of popular because there isn't money to be made with it. Making a Playdate game isn't going to pay your dev studio's employees or even pay your own bills, not because the Play date isn't popular but because it's pretty strictly a hobbyist console. It's very intentionally designed for people who want to make their own games, learn to make their own games or share the games they made with others, presumably for free. The eShop they added was very last minute.

never said anything like that. it's just funny to see you engaging in the same behaviors you hate lefties for. nobody said cancel culture is "literally violence."
            >won’t someone please think of the profit margin of the multinational corporation!
also didn't say anything like that either. see previous, you're clearly not obligated to not buy [product] if you do not like [product]. no one is seething over the fact that you won't buy [product]. that's a hell of a lot of specificity to glean from a single sentence.
            >watching leftypol become little more than corporate boot stickers has been endlessly amusing

What's wrong with his reading comprehension?
How is a boycott "cancel culture"?

Is he calling for specific people to be fired? Is he calling for people to be shunned for their beliefs?

Also "overlords" would imply authoritarian measures.

It's interesting you just brush off the whole Homeland Security thing too.

I hate both rightoids and leftoids, but the rightoids are right on this one. Cope.

That's not an explanation. Try again.

            >i-it's a boycott when WE do it, it's cancel culture when THEY do it
            cope

Left wing boycotts aren't cancel culture though. Cancel culture is getting someone fired because you disliked their opinion on something. You can try to frame me as a hypocrite, but I am not saying left wing boycotts are cancel culture either.

            Also, cope.

Let me refine my previous statement slightly. Shutting someone out because of their beliefs and getting people fired is an example of cancel culture.

Not buying a product because you don't want to support a particular company is another.

Well, we all know the Playdate was a grift against moronic millennials paying $200 for $15 in parts. The Playdate's only interesting idea was making bite sized games and drip feeding them. But that's it, the crank is moronic. And you're moronic for buying it and not seeing it for what it was, a ripoff financial exploitation device for upper middle class white trannies.

Almost 300$ for shitty reinvention of Gameboy with shitty gimmick controls and weird "live service" way of releasing games. Also obnoxious promotional campaign composed of paid "social influencers" and made up non-descriptive slogans like "teenage engineering".

What's with the "teenage engineering" angle I'm seeing recently? A way to attract investors thinking this means it'll be a hit among zoomers?

It's not ugly or anything, I just don't get it.
