No one likes an arrogant or pretentious smartass. Then there is the kind of people who hate people who are smarter than them due jealousy or something else.
Because they're not smart, and smart people just seem needlessly standoffish and mean, when you're too dumb to understand their reasons for thinking or doing things.

Perceived arrogance. People associate intelligence with low physicality and a general annoying habit of trying to debunk everything. In short they associate it with nerds, which many people have a pathological desire to harm in one way or another.
